Manchester United survived a first half onslaught to run out 2-1 winners against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday night.

Here are player ratings:


Szczesny 5/10 | Had little to do before being forced off with an injury suffered while conceding the opening goal.

Chambers 6/10 | Started the game well and was involved going forward but left his defensive duties in the second half.

Mertesacker  5/10 | Kept van Persie quiet but struggled to deal with the pace of Rooney and Di Maria in the second half.

Monreal 5/10 |  Performed admirably but was left badly exposed for the second goal.

Gibbs 5.5/10 | Was a threat in the final third but pushed too far forward at times leaving United with space to attack. Unlucky with the own goal.

Ramsey 5.5/10 | Worked hard but just wasn’t his night. Needs to find some form and quickly.

Arteta 6/10 Played a stunning ball for Giroud’s goal and was an assured presence for much of the game.

Wilshere 7/10Was a positive influence for the Gunners before being forced off with another ankle knock.

Oxlade-Chamberlain 7/10 | Gave United plenty of problems in the first half but his final ball was lacking at times.

Welbeck 6.5/10 | Not the result he wanted against his old side and fluffed a couple of half-chances to get on the score-sheet.

Sanchez 5.5/10 | Worked hard as always but just couldn’t find a final product.

Subs: Cazorla (6), Martinez (5), Giroud (7).

Man Utd

De Gea 8/10 | Superb display from the Spaniard. Kept United in the game in the first half with some superb stops. MOTM

McNair 7/10 | Steady performance from the youngster and did well against Sanchez.

Smalling 7.5/10 | An assured display from Smalling and kept the United back-line together at times.

Blackett 6.5/10 | A shaky start and was given a tough time by Oxlade-Chamberlain but settled into the game.

Valencia 6/10 | Did well against Sanchez for much of the match and it was his deflected shot that led to the opener.

Shaw 5/10 | Was having problems down his side before going off injured in the first half.

Carrick 6/10 | Mature performance from the England man as he held his position and was good in possession.

Fellaini 6/10 |  A rough-and-ready display and his physical presence was important at disrupting the Gunners play.

Di Maria 6.5/10 | Always a threat on the break and set-up Rooney for the second but wasted a golden chance to put the game to bed.

Rooney 7/10 | Cool finish and continued his excellent record against Arsenal.

van Persie 5/10 | Largely anonymous for much of the game before being taken off.
