Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Mario Balotelli and Mamadou Sakho will miss tomorrow nights clash with Leicester City.

The Reds head to the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night looking to build on Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Stoke and Rodgers has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning.

The Northern Irishman gave Liverpoolfc.com a team news and injury update and confirmed that Balotelli is still not in contention as he continues to nurse a groin injury that he suffered while away with the Italian national team last month.

The striker has already missed the last three games against Crystal Palace, Ludogorets and Stoke, and with Daniel Sturridge also still out with a thigh injury, it looks like Rickie Lambert will continue to lead the line up front tomorrow.

Rodgers also revealed the positive news that Mamadou Sakho returned to first team training over the weekend after recovering from a thigh injury that he picked up against Middlesbrough way back on September 23rd.

However, tomorrow’s game will come too soon for the Frenchman so he’ll miss the trip to Leicester and remain at Melwood to work on his fitness ahead of a potential return to action against Sunderland on Saturday.

Liverpool have suffered no fresh injuries and with no other injured players set to return, Rodgers will have the same squad to choose from that beat Stoke at the weekend. The Reds boss told the clubs website:

“The squad will be pretty much the same,”

“Sakho trained yesterday with the team for the first time, but won’t be match-ready yet. And Mario is still not fit.”

Liverpool head to the King Power sitting eleventh in the Premier League table, despite their win over the Potters at Anfield, so Rodgers will be desperate to make it back-to-back wins having endured a disappointing November that saw them lose four of their six games in all competitions.
