Arsene Wenger has given an injury update on Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini after the midfield duo were forced off during Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Galatasaray last night.

Both Ramsey and Flamini once again started at the heart of midfield at the Turk Telecom Arena on Tuesday night and Ramsey in particular played a key role in helping Arsenal race into a 3-0 lead.

The Welshman assisted Lukas Podolski’s opener in the 2nd minute before scoring two himself, with the 23-year-old’s second a sensational left-footed volley that flew into the top corner from 30-yards to put the Gunners in total control at the break.

So it was something of a surprise when the duo failed to come out after half-time with many fans assuming Wenger had decided to give them a rest. However, the boss has revealed that he was forced to make the changes as Ramsey was suffering from a slight hamstring problem while Flamini had a tight calf.

Thankfully, neither injury is thought to be too serious and they should be passed fit to take on Newcastle on Saturday evening.

Wenger told Arsenal.com after the game:

Ramsey had a hamstring, but should be alright for Saturday. Flamini had a calf, but should be ok.

It’s a huge relief to hear that the injuries won’t keep Ramsey or Flamini out as we’re already down to the bare bones in the middle of the park with Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta out injured.

After completing the group stages of the Champions League, we now face two huge Premier League games with Newcastle coming to the Emirates on Saturday before we head to Anfield to take on Liverpool the following weekend.
