[Video Goals] Aston Villa 1-2 Chelsea: Ivanovic Sinks Villa To Send Blues Clear

By on February 7, 2015

Chelsea extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park this afternoon.

The Blues opened the scoring early on when Eden Hazard stroked the ball into the bottom corner from a clever Willian pass in the 8th minute.

Villa got themselves level when they ended their long goal drought as Jores Okore was left unmarked to head home at the far post shortly after half time.

However, Chelsea retook the lead when Branislav Ivanovic lashed home a stunning left-footed strike midway through the second half.

Villa pushed for an equaliser but the visitors held on to win 2-1 and take full advantage of Manchester City drawing 1-1 at home to Hull, with Jose Mourinho’s men now seven points clear at the top of the table.
