Arsenal Lining-Up £50m Double Swoop This Summer

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining-up a £50m double swoop this summer for Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir and Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

The January transfer window is now closed but that won’t stop the newspapers from speculating ahead of the summer so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with a double swoop…

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is lining-up a £50m double swoop this summer for Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir and Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno, according to reports.

We were reasonably busy during the winter window with Wenger bringing in two new players – Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Paulista and young defensive midfielder Krystian Bielik – but it appears the boss is already making plans for the summer.

The Express claim that Wenger has been keeping a close eye on highly-rated Lyon youngster Fekir and is readying a £25m bid for the 21-year-old at the end of the season.

The French under-21 star has been in excellent form in Ligue 1 this season, scoring 8 goals in 16 games so far, and it’s believed he’s also attracting interest from champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Lyon are set to move to a new 60,000 seater stadium next season and with construction costs of around €250m hanging over their heads, they may be forced to cash-in on the talented attacking midfielder.

It’s notoriously difficult to compete with the likes of PSG on a financial front but the good news for us is the newspaper suggests that should Lyon decide to sell, they would prefer to do business with a foreign club rather than a domestic rival.

Fekir is predominantly an attacking midfielder but can also play up front so he’d give us plenty of options if he did join the club, but I’d personally be surprised if Arsene agreed to spend around £25m on a relatively unproven player this summer as I think he’ll be targetting more established names.

That’s just my opinion, and it applies to the second player the Express are linking us with as they also believe that Arsenal are lining up a bid for £25m-rated German goalkeeper Leno, who has been hugely impressive for Bayer Leverkusen over the past two seasons.

The newspaper suggests that Wenger has ‘lost faith’ with Wojciech Szczesny and will look to bring in a new number one this summer, and apparently he’s made the 22-year-old a top target.

Again, I don’t see why the boss would spend that kind of money on a youngster who is even more inexperienced than 24-year-old Szczesny. If we do sign another keeper this summer, I’d like to think we’d bring in an established name.

However, I think Arsene will see whether Ospina or Szczesny can make the No.1 shirt their own during the next few months and make a decision over his goalkeeper situation this summer.
