Arsenal Table €25m Midfielder Bid As Man Utd Close In On No.1 Target

Arsenal have tabled a €25m bid for Monaco midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia as Manchester United look set to wrap-up the signing of No.1 target Morgan Schneiderlin

As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal step-up their interest in Geoffrey Kondogbia…

Arsenal have tabled a €25m bid for Monaco midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia as Manchester United look set to wrap-up the signing of No.1 target Morgan Schneiderlin, according to reports.

Arsene Wenger is understood to be on the look out for a new central midfielder this summer with the future’s of Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Abou Diaby in doubt and the Gunners boss has been linked with a number of players in recent weeks.

Morgan Schneiderlin has long been touted as the Frenchman’s top target but with recent reports suggesting the Southampton ace is now heading to Manchester United, it seems Wenger has forced to turn his attention elsewhere.

It seems Kondogbia is now emerging as Arsenal’s primary focus as the Daily Star are citing reports coming out of Spain which claim the North Londoners have tabled a €25m (£18.2m) offer for the powerful midfielder.

However, despite Monaco needing to sell some of their key men to raise funds this summer, the newspaper suggests the Ligue 1 outfit are likely to reject the offer and hold out for at least €35m (£25m).

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be prepared to match that figure but Kondogbia would be a fine signing for the FA Cup holders as he’s been excellent for Monaco since joining the club from Sevilla in 2013.

The Gunners found out first hand just what he’s capable of as the 23-year-old put in two outstanding display’s during Monaco’s Champions League success over Arsenal last season, and no doubt those performance’s caught the eye of Wenger.

We’ll have to see how things develop over the coming weeks as Arsenal could still turn their attention back to Schneiderlin if his proposed move to United stalls for any reason, but Kondogbia would be an exciting addition at the Emirates if they were able to get a deal agreed.

The French international would give the Gunners a real physical presence in the middle of the park and he’d offer great competition to Francis Coquelin – who was excellent in the holding role during the second half of last season.
