Chelsea have opened talks with Tottenham Hotspur over the availability of Danny Rose with the Premier League champions ready to pay £15m for the left-back this summer, according to the Mirror.

Jose Mourinho is on the look out for a new full-back after agreeing to sell Filipe Luis back to Atletico Madrid following an unsuccessful debut season in English football for the Brazilian international.

The Blues have been strongly linked with a move for Baba Rahman in recent weeks with ESPN reporting just yesterday that a potential £17.5m deal for the Ghana international was close to being agreed with Augsburg.

However, it appears Mourinho is still keeping his options open as the Mirror claim that Chelsea are also showing a keen interest in Danny Rose and have now opened talks with Tottenham over a potential deal.

The newspaper suggests that the West Londoners made contact with Spurs over the weekend to find out what their asking price is and it’s understood Chelsea are willing to pay up to £15m to land the 25-year-old this summer.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham will be prepared to do business at that price but I suspect Daniel Levy will demand a fee well in excess of £20m to sell Rose to a domestic rival.

The Spurs chairman is a tough negotiator and I’m sure boss Mauricio Pochettino is desperate to keep hold of the full-back so I expect they’ll demand big money from Chelsea to put them off from pursuing a deal.

The North Londoners do have Ben Davies waiting in the wings to step-in if Rose was to join Chelsea, but I still don’t expect Levy to encourage any interest from their Premier League rivals as Rose has become a vital part of Pochettino’s starting eleven.

Even if a deal was agreed, I’d also question the logic of Rose moving to Chelsea as he wouldn’t be first choice under Mourinho and would simply play back-up to Cesar Azpilicueta. A player who’s got ambitions to become a regular in Roy Hodgson’s England team ahead of the 2016 European Championships needs to be playing week-in, week-out.

Anyway, in the end, I don’t think anything will come of Chelsea’s interest in Rose and they’ll probably end up signing Rahman from Augsburg, and I suspect that may be the final piece of business conducted at Stamford Bridge unless any more players leave.
