Man Utd Agree £22.3m Attacker Deal, Player Likely To Arrive Next Week

Manchester United have finally agreed a fee worth £22.3m with Barcelona for Pedro Rodriguez but may have to wait until next week before wrapping-up the deal

With the summer transfer window in full swing, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd agree a fee for Pedro….

Pedro-Rodriguez-Barcelona

Manchester United have finally agreed a fee worth £22.3m with Barcelona for Pedro Rodriguez but may have to wait until next week before wrapping-up the deal, according to Goal.

Pedro has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer and the Mirror reported last week that United officials had held preliminary talks with Barcelona ahead of their friendly game in the United States last month.

Spanish outlet Sport then claimed earlier this week that chief executive Ed Woodward was due to arrive in Spain on Tuesday to hold further face-to-face negotiations with the aim of trying to thrash out a deal.

It appears those talks have now reached a satisfactory conclusion as Goal are reporting that United have now agreed a deal worth £22.3m for Pedro’s signature – which consists of £18.1m up front with a further £4.2m in additional add ons.

However, the outlet says the proposed transfer is being held up as Barcelona are adamant that Pedro remains with them to play in the Uefa Super Cup against Sevilla next Tuesday.

The European champions take on the Europa League winners in Tbilisi and with Neymar and Lionel Messi only just returning to pre-season training, neither are expected to play the full 90 minutes against Sevilla, so Barca want Pedro available so he can play his part in the game.

Assuming United agree to this, Pedro will have to wait until next week before completing the switch to Old Trafford meaning he won’t play any part in United’s Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

So it looks like barring any last minute hitches, Pedro is on course to becoming United’s sixth major signing of the summer transfer window and will come in to replace Angel Di Maria – who’s set for a move to PSG.

Pedro has been with Barcelona his entire professional career but he’s struggled for regular minutes recently with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez all ahead of him in the pecking order while Arda Turan will also pose a threat when he begins his career at the Nou Camp in January.

The Spanish international is now 28-years-old and with the European championships coming up next summer, it comes as no surprise he’s looked for a new challenge as he needs to be playing week-in, week-out if he wants to be part of Vicente del Bosque’s team.

I think he’ll be an excellent signing for United as he’s capable of playing anywhere across the front positions and despite not always being a regular at Barca, Pedro has still managed to score 98 goals in 318 games, so he’ll bring a much-needed goal threat to van Gaal’s side.

Nothing official has come out from either club as yet but it does look like it’s only a matter of time until Pedro becomes a United player and I think he’ll be a big hit here in England.
