Manchester United will be hoping to close the gap at the top of the table when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon. Here is the side I think Louis van Gaal will pick:

Goalkeeper: David de Gea is now firmly back in favour at Old Trafford so the Spaniard should continue between the sticks on Sunday.

Defence: Luke Shaw has been ruled out for around six months after suffering a double leg break during United’s 2-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in midweek so van Gaal has to make at least one change to his defence.

Ashley Young is an option at left-back but I think we’ll see Marcos Rojo come in to offer a bit more defensive solidity for this tricky away game. Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind and Chris Smalling will make up the rest of the back four.

Midfield: Morgan Schneiderlin didn’t feature in midweek but I think we might see him recalled on Sunday to face his former club. Michael Carrick is also pushing for a start but Bastian Schweinsteiger is expected to keep his place in midfield with Ander Herrera playing just in front of the duo to offer another body in the middle of the park.

Attack: Wayne Rooney is back in contention after recovering from a knock so he’s likely to start up front with summer signing Anthony Martial dropping back to the bench.

Memphis Depay should keep his place in attack after another fine goal in midweek while Juan Mata could move back out to the right after playing in the No.10 role against PSV.

Here is how we think United will line-up:

BACK MAN UTD TO WIN AT CRAZY ODDS OF 6/1 + MONEY BACK IF YOU LOSE

What do you think? What line-up would you like to see start?
