Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has offered an update on Francis Coquelin and Mikel Arteta after the pair both picked up injuries during our 2-1 defeat at West Brom.

Coquelin was forced off inside the opening 15 minutes at the Hawthorns after suffering a knee injury during an innocuous challenge in the middle of the park.

The Frenchman’s replacement, Mikel Arteta, failed to last the ninety minutes either after he too had to be substituted early in the second half after picking up a calf problem.

Speaking to Arsenal.com after the game, Wenger confirmed he’s not yet sure how serious the two injuries are but revealed that we should know more on Coquelin on Sunday – presumably after he has a scan on his knee.

The boss told the clubs website:

We have two more injuries. One is a muscle problem for Arteta and the other one is a knee problem and I don’t know how serious that is but we will know certainly tomorrow, for Coquelin. Arteta is a calf.

Let’s pray that Coquelin’s injury isn’t serious as it would be a huge blow if he was ruled out for a prolonged spell. He’s become integral to our team this season and we have very little back-up ready to come in.

Arteta is first in line but it looks like he’s now set for another spell on the sidelines so if Coquelin is also out, Mathieu Flamini is going to have to step in over the coming weeks.

That would be less than ideal, especially as we are battling at the top of the league and have two huge games coming up in the Champions League.
