Arsene Wenger has offered an update on the fitness of Alexis Sanchez and revealed the attacker could be back to face Manchester City next Monday.

Sanchez has missed victories over Sunderland and Olympiakos after being forced off at Norwich City two weeks ago with a hamstring injury that he suffered during the second half of our draw at Carrow Road.

The 26-year-old was given permission to head back to Chile to recuperate while he was on the sidelines with Wenger initially not expecting his star man to be available again until after the Christmas fixtures.

However, it appears Alexis is making a swift recovery as the boss has now confirmed that he’s due to arrive back in North London on Sunday and will resume full first team training again the following day.

Wenger revealed that Sanchez has already been running with the physio of the Chile national team and if he continues to progress during training next week, he could be back in the squad to face Manchester City at the Emirates on December 21.

Arsene is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard:

“He is back on Sunday, he trains on Monday morning at 9.30am,” said Wenger.

“He is running already… I sent him back to Chile, where he has been running with the physio of the national team, and we will see what kind of state he is in next week.”

It would be a major boost to have Alexis available to face City as it’s going to be a pivotal game in our title push with just one point currently separating us in the Premier League table.

Hopefully Arsene won’t rush him back as the last thing we want is to aggravate the injury and see him ruled out for the entire festive period, but fingers crossed we see Sanchez at least make the bench when the Citizens come to town next Monday.
