Midfielder Set To Join Arsenal After Completing Medical & Agreeing Personal Terms

Arsenal are set to wrap-up the £5m signing of Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel after the midfielder underwent his medical and agreed personal terms.

Arsenal are set to wrap-up the £5m signing of Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel after the midfielder underwent his medical and agreed personal terms, according to the Mirror.

The Egyptian international has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks with the Independent reporting over the weekend that the Gunners had agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £5m with his current club Basel.

It appears the transfer is now edging ever-closer to completion with the Mirror claiming that Elneny has now undergone a medical on Tuesday after supposedly agreeing personal terms over a contract worth around £60,000-a-week.

The 23-year-old must still be granted a work permit before any deal can be completed but as Elneny is now a regular in Egypt’s first team, he should have little problem getting the required paperwork to seal his move to North London.

The Mirror claim that the formalities should be wrapped-up over the coming days and Arsenal should officially announce Elneny’s arrival during the early stages of the January transfer window.

Arsene Wenger did little to play down the speculation when quizzed about the reports at his pre-match press conference this morning, telling Arsenal.com that he’s already working hard on potential deals but isn’t able to announce anything regarding Elneny until the transfer is concluded.

“I’ll be busy, that’s for sure, I am already busy and I said already one month ago we are a bit short to deal with all the competitions we face, especially in midfield. We will be busy, yes.”

“Unfortunately we cannot announce anything at the moment about this player [Elneny] because nothing has been concluded,” Wenger told Arsenal.com

Elneny’s arrival will be a welcome one as he’s developed into a fine midfielder during his time at Basel and he’ll give Wenger another vital option in the middle of the park during the second half of the season.

Injuries to Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta have decimated our options in midfield in recent months so it’s imperative we add another body this winter and it appears Elneny is the man Wenger has gone for.

However, fans hoping his arrival will be the start of an influx of new signings at Arsenal in January may be disappointed as the Mirror claim that Elneny is likely to be our only new signing next month as Wenger wants to wait until the summer to land his prime targets.
