Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla are progressing well in their injury recoveries but are still weeks away from making their return to action, according to Arsenal.com.

Wilshere has endured yet another injury-plagued season with the midfielder suffering a fractured fibula in training at the start of August just before the new campaign kicked off.

The 24-year-old was due to make a return to the first team at some point in December but unfortunately Jack once again suffered a setback in training and his comeback was put on ice.

Cazorla on the other hand was playing a key role in Wenger’s starting line-up until he suffered a series knee ligament injury during our draw at Norwich City at the end of November 2015.

The Spaniard underwent an operation at the start of December and was immediately ruled out until the end of February at the earliest – although many felt it would be March until we saw Cazorla back on the pitch.

It looks as though that prognosis is accurate as Wenger has now confirmed that while Santi and Jack are ‘progressing well’ he still feels it will be ‘at least a few weeks’ until the midfield duo are back in action.

Speaking to Arsenal.com today, Arsene said:

on Wilshere and Cazorla…
Jack and Santi are progressing well but they are at least a few weeks away. But these two apart, it is just about competitiveness and match fitness.

So it looks as though it’s going to be a while yet before we see Wilshere or Cazorla back in the famous Red & White shirt. We’ll have to see how they progress over the coming weeks but it sounds like it will be early March before they will be available.

That will mean Wilshere will only have a few weeks to get back up to speed and play any sort of role in our title run-in, while he’ll also be running out of time to convince Roy Hodgson he’s worthy of a place in the England Euro 2016 squad.

There was some positive injury news today, with Wenger revealing that Francis Coquelin and Tomas Rosicky will be in the squad to face Burnley this weekend, while Danny Welbeck will step-up his return with a run-out for the under-21’s next week. See full details here.
