Arsenal have suffered an injury blow with Arsene Wenger confirming that Jack Wilshere has been ruled out for at least another six weeks, according to the Guardian.

Wilshere is yet to play a single minute of first team football this season after suffering a fractured fibula just before our Community Shield clash with Chelsea at the start of August.

After struggling to recover from the injury, the 24-year-old was eventually forced to undergo surgery in September which ruled him out for at least three months.

Wilshere was initially expected to return before the New Year but was ruled out until February after suffering a setback in training just before Christmas time.

Fans have been patiently waiting for updates on Wilshere’s situation but it looks as though the midfielder has suffered yet another setback as Arsene confirmed yesterday that he’s only just started to run freely outside.

And the boss says that it’s going to take six weeks of hard training before Wilshere is considered fit enough to finally make his return to the first team setup.

Wenger is quoted as saying by the Guardian:

“Jack is starting to run. Once you move out, from the first day, you count six weeks to be competitive and build up stamina and intensity. You need six weeks to be ready fitness-wise.”

Based on Wenger’s time-frame, as long as Wilshere doesn’t suffer any further setbacks over the coming weeks, he should be back available for selection around mid-March.

With our final Premier League game scheduled for May 15th, it looks like Wilshere could only end up playing for two months of the entire season, which is a huge  disappointment in what was meant to be a defining campaign for the midfielder.

Fingers crossed Jack can make a successful recovery from here on and is able to get back out on the pitch as soon as possible as we’ve sorely missed him in the middle of the park this season.
