Chelsea Open Talks Over Possible £65m Deal For 36-Goal Hitman

Chelsea have opened formal talks with Napoli over a potential deal for Gonzalo Higuain but have been told the Argentinean international will cost £65m

The opening of the summer transfer window is fast approaching so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are linked with Gonzalo Higuain….

Chelsea have opened formal talks with Napoli over a potential deal for Gonzalo Higuain but have been told the Argentinean international will cost £65m, according to a report in the Metro.

Higuain has enjoyed a sensational season in Italy after scoring 36 goals in just 35 Serie A games to help Napoli finish second behind champions Juventus and qualify for the Champions League next season.

The 28-year-old’s impressive form appears to have caught the attention of in-coming Blues boss Antonio Conte as Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move for the South American hitman in recent weeks.

Conte is expected to be active in the transfer market this summer as he overhauls the Chelsea squad following a disappointing campaign and another striker to offer support for Diego Costa is likely to be a priority.

Radamel Falcao is heading back to Monaco following an unsuccessful loan spell while Loic Remy is set to find a new club after failing to establish himself at Stamford Bridge and it looks as though Higuain is the man Conte wants to strengthen his options up front.

It appears the West Londoners have now formalised their interest as the Metro are citing a report coming from Squaka that claims Chelsea have now opened talks with Napoli over a potential deal for the Argentinean international.

The newspaper suggests that the Blues had hoped to secure an agreement at around £45m but have been told by Napoli that it will take a whopping £65m to persuade them to cash-in on the striker this summer.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich could easily afford that kind of money but it remains to be seen whether the Russian billionaire will agree to sanction such a deal for a player who’ll turn 29 later this year and would therefore have little sell-on value.

Obviously Higuain would be a superb signing for Chelsea if they did manage to lure him to Stamford Bridge as he’s been one of the most prolific striker’s in European football in recent years, so I’m sure Blues fans are praying Abramovich is ready to get his chequebook out this summer.
