Riyad Mahrez

Arsenal are looking to pull off a sensational £75m double swoop for Riyad Mahrez and Alexandre Lacazette before their Premier League opener against Liverpool, according to the Mirror.

Arsene Wenger has already brought in Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka and young prospects Rob Holding and Takuma Asano but the French boss is planning to further strengthen his attacking options after a lack of goals once again cost the Gunners in the title race last season.

Several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks but the Mirror claim that Wenger has set his sights on Mahrez and Lacazette and is looking to pull off a £75m double deal this summer.

Mahrez played a key role in helping Leicester City clinch a shock Premier League title last season and the 25-year-old was named as the PFA Player of the Year after scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists for his team mates.

Eurosport FR claimed on Saturday that the Algerian international has already agreed to join Arsenal after Wenger held talks with his agent last week and the Mirror suggest that it will take an offer of around £35m to tempt Leicester in to a sale.

Should Mahrez make the move to north London, it would cast further doubt on Theo Walcott’s future at Arsenal with the England international tipped to leave following a disappointing campaign last season.

Wenger is also looking to bring in a top class striker to offer competition for Olivier Giroud and the Mirror suggests that Lyon hitman Lacazette is now top of Arsenal’s wish-list after they missed out on Gonzalo Higuain.

Lacazette has become one of the most prolific strikers in France and proved this once again after scoring 23 goals in 44 games to help Lyon to a second placed finish behind champions Paris Saint-Germain last season.

The newspaper says that Wenger held talks with the 25-year-old’s representatives during Euro 2016 about a move to the Emirates and the Gunners are now ready to press ahead with a deal that would cost in the region of £40m.

This proposed £75m double deal would transform Arsenal’s attack if they could pull it off and the Mirror suggest that Wenger wants both deals in place ahead of their Premier League opener against Liverpool on August 14th.

Arsenal are set to be without Giroud, Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Laurent Koscielny for that clash while Alexis Sanchez is also a doubt with an ankle injury so the Gunners could certainly benefit from having Mahrez and Lacazette on board as quickly as possible.
