Striker Keen On Move As Chelsea Prepare Record £68m Offer

Everton have accepted that Romelu Lukaku wants to move back to Stamford Bridge this summer and Chelsea are prepared to pay £68m to re-sign the Belgian hitman

The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are prepared to pay £68m to re-sign Romelu Lukaku…

Everton have accepted that Romelu Lukaku wants to move back to Stamford Bridge this summer and Chelsea are prepared to pay £68m to re-sign the Belgian hitman, according to the Mirror.

Lukaku enjoyed his most prolific ever season last year having scored 25 goals in all competitions for a struggling Everton side that ended up finishing eleventh in the Premier League table.

His impressive form attracted interest from a whole host of top clubs but Chelsea have emerged as the clear favourites to secure Lukaku’s signature with many scared off by Everton’s valuation of the striker.

The Mirror claim that after weeks of negotiations between the two clubs, the Toffees knocked back Chelsea’s opening £57m bid on Saturday and are demanding £75m for the powerful Belgian international.

However, the newspaper suggests that Everton have accepted that Lukaku wants to move back to West London so Chelsea are willing to go back in with an improved offer of £68m in the hope of finally getting a deal agreed.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Everton will be willing to lower their asking price for the want-away 23-year-old but either way it looks like Chelsea are going to have to smash the British transfer record, set by Manchester United when they signed Angel Di Maria for £59.7m two years ago, to sign Lukaku.

Antonio Conte has already splashed out on highly-rated Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi from Marseille but with doubts continuing over the future of Diego Costa, the Italian tactician looks set to bring in another front-man over the coming weeks.

Lukaku would be an excellent signing for the Blues as he’s developed in to one of the best strikers in the Premier League since leaving Stamford Bridge two years ago, which is why they face having to pay more than double the £28m they received from Everton in 2014.

Some pundits have questioned whether Lukaku would want to return to the club after failing to be given a chance during his first spell at Chelsea but with a new manager in charge and no doubt a lucrative contract waiting for him, it’s easy to see why the striker is keen on returning to the capital.
