Arsenal are eyeing up a surprise £30m swoop on Manchester City for out-of-favour hitman Wilfried Bony as Arsene Wenger looks to solve his striker shortage

The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Wilfried Bony….

Arsenal are eyeing up a surprise £30m swoop on Manchester City for out-of-favour hitman Wilfried Bony as Arsene Wenger looks to solve his striker shortage, according to the Daily Star.

Wenger has been searching the market trying to bring in another top class striker all summer but has been frustrated in his attempts to land several players such as Jamie Vardy, Gonzalo Higuain, Mauro Icardi and Alexandre Lacazette.

With options limited and time running out before the start of the new season, the Daily Star claim that Arsenal chiefs are now urging Wenger to turn his attention to Bony and test Man City’s resolve with a £30m offer.

However, the newspaper says the boss is reluctant to sanction the move due to the Ivory Coast international’s poor record at the Etihad, where he’s scored just ten goals since making a £25m move from Swansea in January 2015.

The 27-year-old made his name at Vitesse Arnhem before scoring 34 goals in 56 starts during a hugely successful two-year spell at Swansea, so he certainly has some goal-scoring pedigree to his name.

His record at City is clearly a concern but in fairness Bony has been given limited chances to establish himself as he’s always played second fiddle to Sergio Aguero, so I wouldn’t use his time at Eastlands against him too much.

However, it appears his time with City is about to come to an end this summer after Pep Guardiola left him out of City’s Champions League squad but it looks like Wenger may still pursue other avenues before he makes any formal play to try and sign Bony.
