Arsenal: The Bigger Picture And Why Wenger Doesn’t Spend

One of the most difficult things to do in life is to maintain discipline. Now I know that you may not believe me, but try it yourself, try to lead a discipline life. Try getting up in the morning everyday at the same time reaching work at the same time, and sleeping at the same time. If you do it, you’ll honestly know what I’m talking about.

This discipline factor can also be used through clubs, namely – Arsenal Football Club. Why? Well its simple, we say we want Arsenal to spend. Now its quite easy to say that. It seriously is, Wenger goes asks Gazidis for 60 million pounds, Ivan takes out a briefcase and BANG !!, we have a new Arsenal player in Iniesta…But its not as easy as it sounds.

Why don’t you picture a boy having 100 Pounds in his wallet. Tell him to give you 1 pound, and probably he won’t have a problem. But if you tell him to give you about 45 pounds, he’ll probably show you the bird! Now whats my point…my point is that when a person is induced to lose a lot of money at one time, he may become apprehensive, or may be reluctant, but ask him for small amounts to lose, he won’t be bothered. Well this is not only due to a psychological issue, but also because of the fact that by giving you that 1 pound he’ll probably make a friend or some gain, if you get what I’m saying.

You see spending is not the issue with the club. Yes the club has profits, in fact the entire club is self-sustaining and sufficient in terms of money. The only thing it does have is a long-term debt which if I may add, is also under control, because the rates of interests are quite reasonable.

Today you see clubs like Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona think if we only had that amount of money to spend on players. It’s not that we don’t have the money, it’s just that we don’t want to spend it if it causes harm to the club. Confused ??? Well its something like this. If you have 10 pounds with you and you want to but shoes which cost 12 pounds, you can do either of the 3 things:

  1. Sit on your ***, and moan!
  2. Wait till you get your next paycheque
  3. Borrow money from some person and buy the shirt.

For Arsenal its category 2, while the big spending clubs fall into the 3rd category.

Yeah, I want the club to spend. Yes, I am being honest here, I want a David Villa or a Xabi Alonso, but the point is, that would be beneficial to Arsenal football Club but not to “Arsenal.” And when a person asks you which club do you support you say “Arsenal.” Sometimes people do question your loyalty, and most of the time when your team lose you will get **** from people. Yeah, you will. But these guys will probably be supporting clubs like United, City, Chelsea or either of the Spanish Giants.

I respect what Wenger has done for the club, and as a human he is not comparable to anybody else. Not only did he run the club on a shoe-string budget, otherwise we may have ended up like Liverpool or something, but also he never lost faith in Arsenal, hence the new contract.

If you support Arsenal, you have to suck up a lot of ***t, and a lot of pressure from fans of other clubs. I know people who have changed clubs overnight from Arsenal to United, because they couldn’t take it. Its is a disciplined, and hard issue, lets face it, it is.

NEWS FLASH !! – United have signed Robinho for 55 millions pounds, City have signed Ibrahamovic for 65 million pounds, and Chelsea have signed Schweinsteiger for 52 million pounds, is not a really good thing to hear. In a flash you can picture the improvement in quality that these players will have on these sides, while we sign a reasonably priced player, who may or may not let say ‘click.’ Yeah, I know its hard, and pissing off, as to why we don’t win. Of course why shouldn’t it be, we are fans and we want our team to win. But to win there are different ways. Some will say change the manager, and some will say change the tactics. Personally I fall into the latter , as I feel Wenger has to improve on his tactics, as whatever people say I don’t think the guy knows his tactics as good as a Fergie, Mourinho, or Guardiola. He’s super as a person, but not as a manager regarding football tactics. Thats my opinion, and I hope you readers respect it. But coming back to the point, consider this…

Recent reports have suggested that Qatar Holdings or something like that want to buy united for 1.5 billion pounds. And, that the new Sheikh owner will give Fergie a 1000 billion pounds as a transfer war chest. Now how more discouraging can I express this? Here you have a club who respects its finances, and in the same country you have a few others who spend like money is nothing to them.

Go on, and ask yourself, do you support Arsenal, if you do then believe in what the club stands for, believe in whats right, and believe in your players…..Thats a fan, that’s a Gooner. Remember its not just a game, its Arsenal.

Have a look at Wenger’s interview, when the lady asks him why does he not spend? I hope my point is clear then,..and if its still not clear, try the video of this video, hopefully that should help…

Cheer-i-o,

THE ARMOURY
