[SSN] Defender Set For Chelsea Medical After Agreeing Personal Terms Over £24m Move

A defender is heading to London to undergo his Chelsea medical ahead of a proposed £24m move from Fiorentina, according to Sky Sports News.

The transfer window is now drawing to a close so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea close-in on a deal for Marcos Alonso…

Marcos Alonso is heading to London to undergo his Chelsea medical ahead of a proposed £24m move from Fiorentina, according to Sky Sports News.

Antonio Conte has made no secret of his desire to strengthen his squad before Wednesday night’s 11pm deadline and defence is his priority as the Italian currently has just four senior defenders to choose from.

Baba Rahman was allowed to join Schalke on loan earlier this month leaving the Blues short of cover at left-back so it was no surprise when the Telegraph reported late last week that Chelsea had identified Alonso as a potential new target.

It looks like the west Londoners are now closing in on a deal for the 25-year-old as Sky Sports News claim that Alonso is en route to London to undergo his medical this evening.

The media outlet says that after seeing their initial £20m offer rejected by Fiorentina, the Serie A club are expected to accept Chelsea’s improved £24m offer and an announcement on the deal is due ‘imminently’.

To add further support to this report, the Guardian claim that Alonso has already agreed personal terms over his move to Stamford Bridge, so it appears the defender really is heading to west London.

Alonso came through the Real Madrid youth system prior to joining Bolton in 2010 where he spent three years before heading for Italy in 2013 having been snapped up by Fiorentina.

The left-back enjoyed a six-month loan at Sunderland in 2014 where he helped the Black Cats avoid relegation from the Premier League before returning to Florence where he’s become a first team regular.

The Spaniard’s arrival will not only provide competition at left-back but it will also give Conte the option of moving Cesar Azpilicueta across to right-back which would allow Branislav Ivanovic to play in a more central role if needed.

If Alonso does end up sealing his proposed move to Stamford Bridge he’ll become the clubs third major signing of the summer following the arrivals of midfielder N’Golo Kante and striker Michy Batshuayi.
