Arsene Wenger has confirmed a fresh injury concern after a player missed Tuesday night’s Champions League draw at Paris Saint-Germain

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Theo Walcott missed Tuesday night’s Champions League draw at Paris Saint-Germain due to a minor knee concern.

Walcott endured a difficult campaign last year as he completely lost his form during the run in but he’s started this season positively and has a goal and an assist to his name from his four Premier League starts so far.

The 27-year-old was expected to once again keep his place on the right-wing for our Champions League Group A opener against PSG at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.

But Theo was a surprise omission from the squad when the teams were announced an hour before kick off and fans thought Wenger had simply axed the attacker as the boss had made a number of other questionable team selections for the game.

However, Wenger has revealed that Walcott was forced to miss the match as he was in fact left back in North London after picking up a knee injury – but thankfully the Frenchman also says the problem is ‘very short term’.

Arsene is quoted as saying by the Mirror.

“He [Walcott] has a knee problem, I think it’s very short term but he’s not completely fit so I left him at home.”

So it sounds as though Walcott’s injury is a minor one and he should be available again soon but we’ll have to wait and see whether he recovers in time for Saturday’s trip to the KCOM Stadium to take on Hull City.

In Theo’s absence, Alex Iwobi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain started on the wings on Tuesday night and I thought neither had particularly good games so the sooner Alexis Sanchez and Walcott are back out wide, the better.
