Arsenal get back to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime.

Ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s given an update on the fitness of Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla.

Sanchez will be assessed by the Arsenal medical team when he returns to the club on Friday morning after suffering a hamstring injury while away with the Chile national team last week.

The 27-year-old rushed back to play in their World Cup qualifying win over Uruguay on Tuesday night with Sanchez showing no sign of the injury after scoring two goals during the 3-1 victory.

Sanchez suggested to reporters yesterday that he was fully fit to take on United on Saturday lunchtime and Wenger has confirmed that the striker text him after the Chile game to say he’s in ‘good shape’.

However, the Arsenal boss has suggested he will make a late decision over whether to start Sanchez against United as he weights-up the risk of aggravating the hamstring injury further.

Wenger told reporters this morning:

Wenger also revealed some concerning news regarding Cazorla as the midfielder is yet to return to training and the Gunners have no idea when the Spanish international will be available for selection again.

Cazorla has been on the sidelines since suffering an Achilles injury during their 6-0 Champions League victory over Ludogorets a month ago and it looks like he’s no closer to returning to action.

The loss of Cazorla will be a big blow ahead of the trip to Old Trafford and with Hector Bellerin also joining the likes of Danny Welbeck, Per Mertesacker and Lucas Perez on the sidelines, Wenger will be without a number of key men when he takes on Jose Mourinho’s side.
