The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Man Utd are linked with Harry Kane….
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is plotting a sensational £80m move for Tottenham’s Harry Kane if they fail to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid, according to the Daily Star.
Mourinho needs to bring in a top class striker this summer with doubts continuing over the future’s of Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Griezmann has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford.
The French international has developed in to one of the best strikers in the world since joining Atletico and the Daily Star claim that United are prepared to trigger his £85m release clause after making him their No.1 target this summer.
However, with Griezmann insisting he’s content at Atletico and expressing concerns about living in Manchester, the Red Devils have drawn up a back-up plan in-case they fail to lure the 25-year-old to England.
And the Daily Star claim that United will turn their attention to Tottenham hitman Harry Kane and are already plotting an audacious £80m swoop for the England international.
The newspaper states that United chief executive Ed Woodward has told sources that it will be difficult to sign Kane after he penned a new contract earlier in the season but that won’t stop the Manchester giants from trying.
Kane is enjoying another prolific campaign at White Hart Lane having scored 22 goals in 27 games so it’s easy to see why United would be willing to pay huge money to lure him to Old Trafford.
However, even at £80m, I personally don’t think Tottenham would sell as they are now genuine title contenders and will want Kane to lead the team out at their new stadium in 2018.
With Ibrahimovic yet to sign a new contract and Rooney tipped to leave this summer, I fully expect at least one big-name striker to arrive at United this summer but I’d suggest that Griezmann is a more attainable target than Kane.
