Manchester United are stepping-up their interest in Arsenal target Kieran Teirney as Jose Mourinho weighs-up a move for the £10m-rated Celtic defender
Managers are now making plans for the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are linked with Kieran Tierney….
Manchester United are stepping-up their interest in Arsenal target Kieran Teirney as Jose Mourinho weighs-up a move for the £10m-rated Celtic defender this summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Tierney has been with Celtic his entire career having joined their youth set-up at just seven years old and progressed through the ranks before breaking in to the first team squad in 2015.
The 19-year-old has now established himself as one of the best full-backs in Scottish football and he caught the eye of several clubs following an excellent display during Celtic’s 3-3 Champions League draw with Manchester City earlier in the season.
The Mirror reported back in January that Manchester United and Arsenal were among the clubs showing a keen interest in the teenager and the duo have been keeping a close eye on his progress in recent months.
Arsene Wenger is on the look-out for a new left-back with Kieran Gibbs expected to leave the Emirates in search of regular action and Tierney has emerged as one of the Frenchman’s prime targets.
However, it looks as though United are stepping up their interest in the Scottish international as the Daily Mail claim that the Red Devils chief scout, Marcel Bout, watched Tierney in action during the Old Firm derby earlier this month and is expected to attend Sunday’s game with Hearts.
Mourinho is also expected to strengthen his options at left-back this summer with Luke Shaw’s future in serious doubt and it appears Tierney is now a realistic target for the United coach.
Understandably, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to keep hold of Tierney but the newspaper report indicates that the Scottish champions may be tempted to cash-in if £10m is put on the table.
That sort of money wouldn’t be a problem for the likes of Arsenal or United so it’s going to be interesting to see how things develop over the coming months but I wouldn’t be surprised if Tierney ends up making a move south of the border this summer.
