Manchester United are ready to steal a march on Liverpool by launching a £21m bid to sign Benfica midfielder Anderson Talisca this summer, according to the Express.
Talisca – full name Anderson Souza Conceicao – joined Benfica in a £3.5m move from Brazilian outfit Bahia in 2014 and enjoyed a solid two years in Portugal which attracted interest from the Premier League last summer.
Liverpool were strongly linked with a move for the attacking midfielder with the Mirror reporting in July 2016 that Benfica chiefs held formal talks with the Merseysiders to thrash out a £21m deal.
A move to Anfield fell through due to work permit issues and Talisca ended up joining Besitkas on loan in August 2016 where he’s continued to impress with 10 goals and 5 assists in his 25 appearances so far.
The Express claim that Liverpool have continued to monitor the 23-year-old’s progress this season and will renew their interest in the summer but it looks as though the Merseysiders will now face stiff competition for his signature.
The report cites Turkish newspaper Hurriyet as claiming that Man Utd have also been scouting Talisca this season and have informed parent club Benfica that they want to sign him this summer.
Jose Mourinho is gearing up for a busy few months in the transfer market as he looks to make United genuine title challengers again and a new attacking midfielder is on the agenda with Wayne Rooney expected to leave after falling out of favour.
It looks like Talisca has now emerged as a prime target for Mourinho as the Express suggest United are ready to launch a £21m swoop for the Brazilian midfielder this summer.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks but it will be interesting to see what happens as I’m sure Liverpool will step-up their interest if United do end up tabling a formal offer for Talisca’s services.

Jurgen Klopp is also expected to further strengthen his squad this summer as they prepare to return to the Champions League and Talisca would offer good competition and support to the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane.
