Hodgson’s Future at Anfield

Roy Hodgson was unveiled as Liverpool’s new manager on 1st July 2010. The sixty three year old left Fulham after a successful season, where they got to the Europa League final. Roy had previously managed Inter Milan and the national Switzerland team.

When Roy was brought in, there was a lot of excitement about where he could take Liverpool after they finished 7th in the League the previous season. It was hoped that his experience with different kinds of players and situations respectively would aide him in succeeding with the club. Hodgson started the season with a respectable draw against Arsenal at Anfield. The results following the Arsenal game were not as favourable. However, alarm bells had not started ringing yet even though at one point Liverpool entered the bottom 3 in the League.

Currently Liverpool are 9th in the Premiership after 8 defeats and 7 wins. This definitely goes against whatever the Liverpool owners had in mind when appointing Roy as manager. Hodgson was brought in after Benitez’s departure to turn things around; his job was to bring Liverpool back to challenging for the title. So far he has failed in his task.

With the situation as it is, how strong does Roy’s future look at Anfield? He will be lucky to still be in the job at the end of the season. Something is certainly going wrong; the team has a large number of world class players and should ideally be title contenders, not struggling to stay in the top half of the table. They have lost more games than they have won; with the players they have this should be revered. He needs to find out what going wrong, work with the players find out what is affecting them and resolve the issues because if they do not then he will not be there much longer.

Roy’s future is not looking secure at Anfield, he needs to turn things around or be prepared to clear his desk.

How long do you think Roy has left at Anfield?
