Transfer Window: A Letter To Arsene Wenger…

arsene wenger

Dear Mr. Wenger,

Neither me nor any Gooner can thank you enough for what you have done for the club. Today, as I see the plight of clubs like Liverpool, Newcastle and Leeds I realise that whatever you have done for Arsenal Football Club is immense. Continuously working with a constrained budget for the betterment of the club, is something which is not only not easy but also something not many people would do. Hence, going against you is something not many true Gooners like to do, and being part of that section, I to do not like to go against a man who has literally given his heart and soul for the club I love….

Having witnessed a few matches at the Emirates on a few occasions, I too had sunk into a low-depressed state just like millions of our clan. Scum, Toon, Albion….I am not God, that I should advise you, and I am not perfect that I should berate your each move…

So I request you, please sign 1 player this January. Who ? Preferably a defender. Our defense as is weak, having conceded already 22 goals this season and throwing away numerous leads. Last season when we conceded 40 or 42 you said it was too high for a club aspiring to win a trophy, well we are already half-way through ! and we do want a trophy this season.

Now who am I to tell you ? I don’t have a qualification like you. I don’t even have the amt of experience you have. However I, as well as majority of the Gooner population around the world do have something which even you possess – common sense. Any man, who has some amount of common sense will be able to tell you who you need in your team, just by seeing the stats. Its not calculus….if I see that a club has conceded 22 goals in 20 games, that’s like 1 goal per game, I know that the defense should be improved. You don’t need a certified degree in football management to see this.

I know from the bottom of my heart that you know this, but what I cannot understand is why don’t you do something about it ? How long will you not spend a reasonable amount in the transfer market. Yeah a reasonable amount being 10-12 million pounds. Nobody’s asking you to spend like Madrid or City, or even Barcelona for that matter. Is it to much to ask to sign 1 quality defender.

After this years World Cup, you could have spent at least 20 million on Ozil, I mean he moved to Real for £16.75! Every year Gazidis says that we have the money but Arsene does not want it. Why? If you have the money and you need a particular player, provided he is within the budget of the club, which if I may add he is, why don’t you want to spend it.

Every year, at the end of the season you say that we have improved, and we have become better. I for one, completely agree with you. Samir Nasri on his first season was nothing compared to what he is now. Abou, Song are much better players now than they were 4 years ago. Jack, young Jack is a prodigy because of Arsenal FC, but all this could have been forecasted anyway. Arsenal is a top division side, with certain standards, and obviously it shall sign those players who meet its standards. Was this not the goal of your project – ‘Project Wenger’ ? Improving and nurturing young talent, and developing or rather building a team.

You are the best Long-term manager I know. Long-term, why? Because, you run the club within its financial constraints, you don’t spend* uselessly, and you have ensured that Arsenal Football Club is stable financially for years to come. What more can a Gooner ask from you ?

Today as I write to you, we have gone 5 straight seasons without winning any silverware. 5 years without lifting one trophy. As stated before, Arsenal FC have their standards. Isn’t “Not Winning a trophy” not meeting its standards. You are a man of principle, and you firmly believe in whatever you do. But Einstein, yeah I think you know him defined “Insanity as doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.” The first time you tried to do something different by fielding a comparatively stronger side in the Carling Cup we have done well. Beating the scum quite comprehensively at their lane, followed by the Toon away. We are in the semi-finals of the competition. So in all, has doing something different harmed you in anyway?

I have always written the same thing that I shall never lose faith in my club, for I respect and love it too much. You have recently stated that spending 150 million can make the entire club go bust, yeah, it can. And only an idiot would disagree with you…but no one is asking you to spend that much money, all we Gooners are asking is you to spend 8-12 million, and its not even like the amount you spend on Arshavin 2 years ago. It’s just the topping that Arsenal need to win, give us that topping Arsene, that’s all I ask.

Today is the 4th of January, and I hope we sign at least 1 defender within these 27 days. No cake (pineapple) is complete without a cherry on top, just add that cherry Sir, please add that cherry..

Cheers,
