Tottenham Could Wrap-Up £10m Deal To Sign South American This Week

Tottenham Hotspur are set to hold talks with Estudiantes this week as they look to secure a £10m deal to sign Argentinean under-20 international Juan Foyth, according to the Evening Standard.

Mauricio Pochettino has been extremely quite in the transfer market so far this summer with the Spurs boss yet to add to a squad that finished second in the Premier League last season.

The Argentinean coach has an exciting young group of players at his disposal but he knows he needs to further strengthen if Tottenham are going to compete in the league and Champions League next season.

And Pochettino could be set to make his first significant addition this summer as the Evening Standard are one of several media outlets claiming Spurs are interested in signing Foyth.

The 19-year-old has been with Estudiantes his entire career and Foyth broke in to the first team set-up last season after progressing through the youth ranks.

The centre-back caught the eye of Spurs scouts after impressing during Argentina’s 3-0 defeat to England at last months Under-20 World Cup and a move to north London could now be on the cards.

The Evening Standard claim Spurs are scheduled to hold talks with Estudiantes president Juan Veron, the former Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder, in Italy over the coming days.

If the negotiations prove to be successful, then the newspaper suggests a £10m deal taking Foyth to White Hart Lane could be wrapped-up by the end of the week.

The defender recently admitted he would like to test himself in Europe with the Premier League one of the league’s that interests him. Foyth is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard:

“I like competitive leagues more than anything. I always watch the English, Italian and Spanish leagues.”

We’ll have to wait and see how the talks go this week but it’s safe to say Foyth would be regarded as one of the future and not a first team regular if Tottenham decide to push through a deal to sign the talented defender this summer.
