Chelsea Ready To Hijack Tottenham’s Move As Conte Eyes £85m Triple Swoop

Chelsea are ready to try and hijack Tottenham’s attempts to sign Ross Barkley by opening talks with Everton this weekend over a potential £25m deal

Managers are now pressing ahead with their plans for the final days of the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea are ready to open talks for Ross Barkley…

Chelsea are ready to try and hijack Tottenham’s attempts to sign Ross Barkley by opening talks with Everton over a potential £25m deal this weekend, according to the Mirror.

Barkley has been with Everton his entire career having come through the clubs youth ranks but his future at Goodison Park is now in serious doubt.

The 23-year-old is in the final year of his contract and has made it clear he won’t be signing an extension so Ronald Koeman has confirmed the Merseysiders will cash in if a suitable offer arrives.

The England international is still considered as one of the most exciting young talents in the Premier League so it’s no surprise he’s attracted plenty of interest in his signature.

Tottenham have been widely touted as favourites with the Telegraph reporting last week that the north Londoners are ready to test Everton’s resolve with an initial £20m offer for the midfielder.

Mauricio Pochettino has been stepping-up his transfer activity during the latter stages of the window and the Spurs boss is seemingly keen to lure Barkley to north London as he looks to add to his midfield options.

However, Tottenham are going to face some serious competition as the Mirror claim that Chelsea are now ready to try and hijack their attempts to sign Barkley before the window shuts.

The newspaper says Chelsea chiefs will steal a march on Spurs by holding negotiations with their Everton counterparts following tomorrow’s clash between the two sides at Stamford Bridge.

The Toffees were initially hoping to get around £50m for Barkley, however, the Mirror suggest they will now be forced to cash-in at around £25m, which would represent a bargain in today’s market.

Barkley is currently on the sidelines with a hamstring injury but that hasn’t deterred the likes of Spurs or Chelsea from pursuing his signature so it’s going to be interesting to see who wins the race.

If Chelsea come out victorious, then Barkley could be part of a late £85m triple swoop as the Mirror claim Conte is also hoping to secure a £60m double deal for Danny Drinkwater and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Blues have already had bids for both players rejected by Leicester and Arsenal but it seems the Premier League champions are going to step-up their interest in the pair over the coming days as Conte looks to boost his midfield options before the end of the month.
