The January transfer window is in full swing so clubs are working hard trying to strengthen their squads for the second half of the season and put deals in place for the summer. Today, Chelsea are in talks over a £44m double swoop…
Chelsea are in talks with AS Roma over a sensational £44m double swoop for left-back Emerson Palmieri and striker Edin Dzeko, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Antonio Conte is desperate to strengthen his options at left-back this month as he needs competition for Marcos Alonso and Palmieri has emerged as a key target as he’s been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent days.
The Brazilian defender has struggled to establish himself since joining Roma in the summer of 2015 and he’s played just 15 minutes of Serie A football so far this campaign.
The 23-year-old’s situation has seemingly alerted Chelsea and Di Marzio claims the defending Premier League champions are now in formal talks with Roma about signing the South American.
And Palmieri isn’t the only Roma player on Conte’s radar as the Sky Italia journalist says Chelsea have also held negotiations about signing Dzeko in what would be a double swoop on the Serie A club.
Conte is keen to add more firepower to his ranks as the Blues boss needs to ease the pressure on miss-firing striker Alvaro Morata – who’s scored just once in his last ten appearances in all competitions.
Dzeko is the latest name to emerge as a target and I think he’d be an excellent signing if Chelsea could get a deal agreed as the Bosnian international remains a top class target man.
Di Marzio claims that Chelsea are willing to pay Roma £44m for both Palmieri and Dzeko while they will also include Michy Batshuayi on loan as part of the deal.
The report says Roma are demanding another £13m in additional add-ons but it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will be willing to meet their demands or pull out of negotiations.

It’s going to be interesting to see how things progress but while Palmieri is a realistic target, I’m not convinced Chelsea will be able to persuade Roma to part ways with Dzeko during the January window.
