Arsenal Players Want Wenger Gone As Club Chiefs Line-Up Replacements [Daily Mail]

The Arsenal squad no longer feels Arsene Wenger is the man to take the club forward as the board draw-up a list of potential replacements this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Wenger has come under increasing pressure after losing the Carabao Cup final 3-0 to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon with fans and pundits alike lambasting our limp display at Wembley.

The defeat came just days after we lost the second leg of our Europa League last-32 clash at home to Ostersunds – although we still progressed 4-2 on aggregate thanks to our 3-0 first leg victory in Sweden it was still an embarrassing defeat.

We also sit sixth in the Premier League table and 10 points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham so we need a minor miracle to qualify for the Champions League via the league this season.

A third-round exit in the FA Cup to Nottingham Forest means our only remaining hope for the campaign is to win the Europa League but we face a tough last-16 clash with AC Milan.

The Daily Mail are one of several media outlets who are reporting that Wenger’s position as manager will be reviewed at the end of the season and the club have already drawn-up a list of possible replacements with Leonardo Jardim, Joachim Low, Brendan Rodgers and Mikel Arteta all under consideration.

The newspaper says Wenger is facing the sack if we don’t qualify for the Champions League but even that may not save his job as there is a growing belief among the hierarchy that it’s time for a change of manager in the summer.

We’ve restructured the club significantly over the past 12 months with Ivan Gazidis appointing Raul Sanllehi as head of football relations, Sven Mislintat as head of recruitment and Huss Fahmy as contract negotiator, which has severely weakened Wenger’s control at the club.

Stan Kronke will still have the final say over whether Wenger will be sacked at the end of the season and he’s always backed the Frenchman but the American tycoon will be concerned that another year out of the Champions League will have a real affect on the balance sheet.

Wenger is not just losing support in the boardroom as critically the Daily Mail claim the players now also feel that Arsene is no longer the right man to take the team forward next season.

The newspaper says a growing number of players believe we will continue to fall further behind the top clubs if Wenger remains in charge next year and some key players are already seeking ways out if he remains at the helm.

If Wenger has lost the dressing room then there should be no way back for him and I’d say based on recent performances we can only conclude that some players are no longer playing for the manager.

I don’t think there is any doubt left among the fanbase that it’s time for change and it looks like the players and hierarchy have now finally realised that Wenger is no longer the right man to lead Arsenal FC.
