Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama wants a new contract from the north Londoners amid interest from Manchester United and Liverpool, according to the Mirror.

Wanyama made his name at Celtic and further enhanced his reputation during a three-year spell at Southampton before earning a move to Tottenham in the summer of 2016.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a solid first season at White Hart Lane but has struggled to force his way back in to Mauricio Pochettino’s first team plans since returning from an injury that kept him out for the first half of the campaign.

The Kenyan international has started just 6 games so far this season with only 2 coming in the Premier League as Pochettino has opted for Eric Dier in the defensive midfield role.

It seems Wanyama’s situation has alerted rival clubs in England as the Mirror claim that United and Liverpool are showing a keen interest in offering the midfielder a fresh start this summer.

Jose Mourinho is expected to sign at least one new midfielder this summer as Michael Carrick is retiring while Marouane Fellaini is also set to leave on a free transfer and Wanyama is seemingly on his radar.

United will face competition if the Spurs man opts to leave as the newspaper says Jurgen Klopp has also identified Wanyama as a potential replacement for Emre Can – who’s tipped to join Juventus on a free transfer.

The midfielder still has three years left on his current deal so there is no immediate pressure for Spurs to hand him an improved contract but Wanyama could push for a move away this summer if a new deal isn’t put on the table with United and Liverpool ready to pounce.
