Arsenal moved into second place in the premier league table courtesy of a 3-0 victory over Wigan yesterday. 3 goals from in-form striker RVP was enough to overcome a Wigan side, who in all fairness didn’t seem to be trying at all.

Our first chance came in the 3rd min, when Samir Nasri’s shot was blocked by Al-Habsi & 4 mins later the Omani footballer was called to action once again when he pulled out a magnificent save to deny RVP. In the 14th min we almost got our first goal. Clichys long ball found Theo free on the right. The Englishman squared a low pass to Cesc but the Spaniards shot was brilliantly blocked by Caldwell.

In the 21st min we got our first goal – after a few passes ranging from the middle to the right and subsequently to the left of the field Alex Songs pass found our beloved Dutchman onside. Moments later…the scoreboard read Arsenal 1-0 Wigan. Now from that time on we were in control of the match. We held possession and whenever we lost the ball we pressed and got it back.

In the 30th minute Al-Habsi pulled off another great save to deny Cesc. 1 min later, Sagna found Cesc in the middle of the box and after some classic show-boating on Caldwell our captains shot was blocked by Figueroa. We slowly picked up the tempo in the 2nd half as Wigan were playing better. In the 56th min, Cesc played a lovely ball to Theo, however the English-man scuffed his shot from a very tight angle.

In the 58th min, we got our 2nd. A sublime finish from a perfectly weighted pass from Cesc found RVP who made it 2-0 to the Gunners. And from that time on the tension at the Emirates slowly began to diminish. In the 65th min Jack made a brilliant run towards the Wigan goal but sadly hit his shot wide. 4 mins later RVP was given the chance to get his hat trick, and didn’t he blow it! I am going to be honest here and say that I never expected that, and it was a shocking to see it. RVP missed a penalty.

In the 83rd min Song shot just wide. And 2 mins later RVP got his hat-trick. What a goal! Theo picked up a superb pass from Cesc from the middle of the field before laying it off to RVP who smashed it in with his right foot. Arsenal 3-0 Wigan.

It was a cool, calm and composed performance from us out there. Lets just hope it continues….

Watch goals from Arsenal 3-0 Wigan

Cheers,

I forecast that Fabregas won’t last the season unless referees give him proper protection far earlier in matches. In yesterday’s game there were constant niggling fouls on him by both Thomas and Gary Caldwell, largely ignored by the referee, until the latter was rightly redcarded. Then we had the ludicrous assertion by Wigan manager Martinez that Fabregas had conned the referee. Unfortunately, his treatment at the hands of Wigan is not a one-off as we will probably see on Tuesday night when we entertain Ipswich. Something must be done.

I think Fabregas is not happy in Arsenal. Why he celebrate with his mates after scoring goals.
