Liverpool Confident Of Beating Tottenham To Signing Of £13m Attacker

Liverpool are hoping a lucrative contract offer will be enough to tempt Xherdan Shaqiri to choose a move to Anfield over Tottenham

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham could miss out on Xherdan Shaqiri to Liverpool

Liverpool are confident of beating Tottenham to the signing of Xherdan Shaqiri as they prepare to tempt the £13m Stoke City attacker with a lucrative contract offer, according to a report in the Express.

Shaqiri made his name at Basel after coming through their youth ranks before earning a move to Bayern Munich in 2012 and he helped the German giants win a number of trophies including 2 Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.

A disastrous 6-month spell at Inter Milan led to Shaqiri joining Stoke in 2015 and the Swiss international has rediscovered something like his best form at the Bet365 Stadium as he’s provided 15 goals and 15 assists in his 92 appearances in all competitions for the Potters over the past three years.

However, his talents weren’t enough to save Stoke from relegation to the Championship last season and the Express claim that Liverpool and Tottenham are among the clubs to have registered their interest in signing Shaqiri this summer after it emerged he had a £13m relegation release clause in his contract.

Mauricio Pochettino is looking to strengthen his squad after another encouraging campaign in north London and Shaqiri would provide Tottenham with a top quality option in the final third if he moved to the club this summer.

However, the Express are citing a report from the Gambling Times that claims Liverpool are confident of beating Tottenham to Shaqiri’s signature as they are ready to offer a superior financial package to the attacker.

Jurgen Klopp knows he needs more depth in attack if Liverpool are to compete on all fronts next season and it seems he’s identified Shaqiri as the man to offer competition to the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at Anfield.

Klopp has already snapped up midfielder Naby Keita and Fabinho but another attacker is now a priority and Shaqiri would be a shrewd piece of business at just £13m – which is a bargain in today’s market for a player of his quality.

However, any potential deal is going to have to wait as Shaqiri is currently in Russia playing for Switzerland at the World Cup so Liverpool and Spurs will have to bide their time before looking to get a transfer wrapped-up.
