Tottenham Hijack Liverpool’s Deal After Tabling Opening Bid To Sign £31m Star

Tottenham are trying to hijack Liverpool’s attempts to sign Domagoj Vida after tabling an opening £15.9m bid for the Besiktas defender

The summer transfer window is open and managers are working hard on their transfer targets so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Tottenham have made their move to sign Liverpool target Domagoj Vida…

Tottenham are trying to hijack Liverpool’s attempts to sign Domagoj Vida after tabling an opening £15.9m bid for the Besiktas defender, according to reports in Turkey via TeamTalk.

Vida only joined Besiktas back in January following an impressive five-year spell at Dinamo Kiev and he settled well in Turkey during the second half of last season before continuing his solid form in to the World Cup.

The 29-year-old has played a key role in the middle of defence for Croatia and scored during the dramatic quarter-final win over Russia at the weekend to book a semi-final date with England tomorrow night.

The centre-back has now attracted interest from the Premier League with TeamTalk reporting on Monday that Liverpool had seen an opening £13m bid rejected by Besiktas after Jurgen Klopp has identified him as a prime target.

The Reds boss has signed two midfielders in Fabinho and Naby Keita so far this summer but he’s also seemingly in the market for defensive reinforcements and Vida could be viewed as the ideal partner for Virgil van Dijk.

However, it looks like Liverpool will face stiff competition as TeamTalk are citing a report from Turkish outlet Aspor that claims Tottenham are trying to hijack their rivals’ deal after tabling a £15.9m bid of their own.

Mauricio Pochettino is in the market for another centre-back amid speculation linking Toby Alderweireld with a move away from north London this summer and it appears Spurs are keen to land Vida.

However, they may have to dig a little deeper if they want to sign the aggressive defender as TeamTalk claim Besiktas are holding out for an offer closer to £31m for Vida – who has four years left on his contract.

It remains to be seen if Spurs or Liverpool go back in with improved bids but I personally don’t think either club will agree to pay around £30m for a 29-year-old defender who’s never proven himself at a top European league.
