Manchester United are ready to launch a double swoop for Robert Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara as Bayern Munich prepare to sell the £152m-rated duo
There is plenty of Manchester United-related gossip doing the rounds in the papers with the Red Devils linked with a whole host of star names. Today, United are linked with Robert Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara …
Manchester United are ready to launch a double swoop for Robert Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara as Bayern Munich prepare to sell the £152m-rated duo, according to reports via TeamTalk.
Jose Mourinho has been relatively quiet in the market so far with third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant and young defender Diogo Dalot arriving in recent weeks along with Brazilian international midfielder Fred – who’s the only significant addition to the first team this summer.
However, Mourinho knows he needs to further strengthen his squad if United are to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool this season and it looks like the Portuguese coach has lined-up two ambitious targets.
TeamTalk are citing a report from the Independent that claims United have identified Lewandowski and Alcantara as possible new recruits with both players facing uncertain futures at the Allianz Arena.
Lewandowski has been one of the most prolific strikers in world football over the past four years after scoring 151 goals in 195 games since joining Bayern but the Polish international has expressed a desire for a fresh start.
The report says the Bundesliga champions are open to the idea of cashing in on the 29-year-old if around £89m is put on the table and United certainly have the financial muscle to meet that asking price.
Mourinho was overly-reliant on Romelu Lukaku last season and could be in the market for a new striker after seeing Zlatan Ibrahimovic head to America so a move for Lewandowski would make sense.
United could also be lining-up another midfielder amid speculation surrounding the future of Paul Pogba and the Independent, via TeamTalk, claims the Red Devils are ready to renew their interest in Thiago.
The Manchester giants missed out on the Spanish international when he joined Bayern from Barcelona in 2013 but rumours suggest he’s on the market this summer as the Bavarian’s look to overhaul their squad.
The report says Bayern would sell at around £63m this summer and that could be viewed as a tempting deal by United for the 27-year-old star who’s now in the prime years of his career.
