Powerful Star Set For ‘Imminent’ Free Transfer To Arsenal, Medical Already Complete

Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure will join Arsenal on a free transfer ‘in the coming hours’ after completing his medical in London

The Premier League transfer window may be closed but European clubs can still buy from English teams and managers are planning for the future so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip. Today, Yaya Toure is linked with Arsenal

Yaya-Toure

Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure will join Arsenal on a free transfer ‘in the coming hours’ after completing his medical in London, according to CalcioMercato.

Toure cemented himself as a City legend during his eight-year stay at the Etihad Stadium as he helped lead the club to three Premier League titles and three domestic cups since joining from Barcelona in the summer of 2010.

The Ivory Coast international fell out-of-favour under Pep Guardiola and left City when his contract expired at the end of last season so he’s available on a free transfer and has been on the look-out for a new club in recent months.

Despite having offers from all over the world, Toure suggested he was keen to remain in the Premier League and the midfielders agent caused a stir after revealing on Twitter on Tuesday night that the 35-year-old is close to joining a new team after completing a medical in London.

Agent Dimitry Seluk quickly shot-down suggestions the mystery club was West Ham or Crystal Palace and Arsenal soon emerged as the bookmakers favourites to snap-up the powerful central midfielder.

Speculation has been intensifying and CalcioMercato now claim that Toure’s transfer to Arsenal is ‘imminent’ with the former City star supposedly set to seal his move to the Emirates ‘in the coming hours’.

However, the Italian publication cites reports from England as the basis of their information, they don’t link to any particular media outlet and I can’t find anything concrete in the British press to confirm these claims.

Arsenal were linked with a number of central midfielders during the latter stages of the transfer window, despite already signing Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira this summer, with a tall presence supposedly on Unai Emery’s wishlist.

On that basis, Toure could make sense but I’d still be shocked if anything came of these rumours. Toure’s best days are well behind him and I just don’t think Arsenal would take a risk on him when Emery is trying to build something new in north London.
