Liverpool welcome Napoli to Anfield this evening knowing they have to win in order to seal qualification to the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The Reds currently sit third in Group C on six points after losing three and winning two of their five games so far and it’s left them two points adrift of second-placed Paris Saint-Germain and three behind leaders Napoli heading in to tonight’s decisive final round of games.

After losing away in Naples 1-0 in the reverse fixture, Liverpool now need to beat Napoli 1-0 or by two clear goals tonight in order to qualify for the last-16 of the competition so it’s set-up to be another unforgettable night at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side head in to the game in excellent form having won their last three Premier League games including a hugely impressive 4-0 win at Bournemouth at the weekend so they should be full of confidence.

However, Napoli are also on a fine run having won their last three matches and cemented their place behind leaders Juventus in the Serie A table with a 4-0 win over Frosinone on Saturday so Carlo Ancelotti will be quietly confident of taking away a positive result tonight.

Team news

Liverpool are expected to welcome Dejan Lovren back in to the side after he missed the last three matches with concussion while Trent Alexander-Arnold should be recalled at right-back.

Sadio Mane is pushing to start in attack after making his return off the bench at Bournemouth having recovered from a foot problem while Adam Lallana is available despite suffering a nasty head wound at the weekend.

Captain Jordan Henderson could also return to midfield after being dropped against Bournemouth while Fabinho is also pushing for a recall. Naby Keita may be given a breather after starting the last two matches.

Napoli have no fresh injury concerns to worry about but the Italians will be without Simone Verdi and Vlad Chiriches through injury.

Predicted Score

Liverpool 3-1 Napoli: Liverpool were poor in the reverse fixture but they will be a completely different animal at home. Anfield is a special place on European nights and I’m expecting another memorable game this evening. The Reds are unbeaten in their last 18 home European matches and Napoli haven’t won any of their last six Champions League away games. I fully expect a Liverpool win and it will probably be dramatic. I’m backing Liverpool to be leading 2-1 with less than 10 minutes to go and Mo Salah scoring the all-important third late on.
