Tottenham eyeing audacious January swoop to sign £36m South American star

Tottenham are eyeing an audacious move to sign Barcelona forward Malcom on an initial loan deal to help ease their problems in attack

The January transfer window is open and managers are working hard on strengthening their squads and identifying targets for the summer so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest rumours. Today, Tottenham are linked with Malcom…

Tottenham are eyeing an audacious move to sign Barcelona forward Malcom on an initial loan deal to help ease their problems in attack, according to the Daily Star.

Spurs are sweating over the fitness of Harry Kane after he limped off with an ankle injury after their 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon. Tottenham are yet to put a time-scale on his recovery but reports today suggest the striker fears he’ll be ruled out for at least four weeks after undergoing an initial scan this morning.

In-form attacker Hueng-min Son is now at the Asia Cup and could miss five matches if favourites South Korea make it to the final while Lucas Moura is also facing a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

It means Mauricio Pochettino has limited options in attack and the Daily Star claim the Tottenham boss is now eyeing a stunning move to sign Malcom on loan until the end of the season.

The Brazilian international was linked with a move to Spurs before eventually joining Barcelona from Bordeaux in a £36.5m deal last summer having forged a reputation as one of the most exciting young attackers in Europe during his time in France.

However, the 21-year-old has struggled to make an impression at the Nou Camp and has started just 1 La Liga game under boss Ernesto Valverde this season so it’s no surprise he’s already being linked with a move away from Catalonia.

The Daily Star says Barca are ready to cash-in and offered Malcom to Chelsea as part of a swap deal involving Willian last week – a move that has alerted Tottenham to the South American’s availability.

Malcom is predominantly a winger but can play anywhere across the front three so he’d give Pochettino a top class option in the final third if they were able to lure him to north London this month.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Tottenham make their interest official but it would be a surprise if Barca allowed the forward to leave on loan just six months after splashing out £36.5m on his signature.
