South American star set to arrive in London to seal £170k-a-week move to Chelsea

Gonzalo Higuain is set to fly-in to London to complete his loan move to Chelsea with the Juventus hitman ready to sign a deal worth £170,000-a-week

The January transfer window is open and managers are working hard on strengthening their squads and identifying targets for the summer so we’ll keep you up-to-date with the latest rumours. Today, Gonzalo Higuian is close to joining Chelsea….

Gonzalo Higuain is set to fly-in to London to complete his loan move to Chelsea with the Juventus hitman ready to sign a deal worth £170,000-a-week, according to the Express.

Maurizio Sarri has been looking to strengthen his attacking options this month as Olivier Giroud has struggled in front of goal this season having found the net just once in the Premier League while Alvaro Morata is set to join Atletico Madrid after a disappointing spell at Stamford Bridge.

Higuain has been Chelsea’s prime target with widespread reports over the past couple of weeks suggesting the Blues have been in talks with Juventus and AC Milan about taking the South American hitman on loan.

The 30-year-old is currently on loan at Milan but has struggled for form in recent months having scored just once in his last 12 appearances leading to speculation his stint at the San Siro could be cut short this winter.

Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso confirmed Higuain is set to leave the Italian giants after being left out of their squad for today’s game at Genoa.  Gattuso is quoted as saying by the Express:

“I accept his decision. Surely he could have done more and maybe we could have helped him fit in better.

“I want to be honest with you all. We had a poor training session today due to all these rumours. We spoke after the training session and I did not consider him ready for this game.”

The Express claims Higuain is now set to fly-in to London on Tuesday to complete an initial six-month loan move to Chelsea which will include the option to extend the move by a further 12 months.

The Daily Mail believe Higuain could even arrive on Monday afternoon in order to get the deal pushed through in time for him to be eligible to face Tottenham in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Thursday night.

It’s further reported by the Express that Chelsea will take over Higuain’s £170,000-a-week wages after they agreed terms over the loan move with Juventus following their Italian Supercoppa final victory over Milan last week.
