Man Utd in battle to sign £75m star as Solskjaer looks to secure vital first signing

Manchester United will face fresh competition from Paris Saint-Germain in the battle to sign £75m Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt this summer

Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Manchester United face a fight to sign Matthijs de Ligt…

Manchester United will face fresh competition from Paris Saint-Germain in the battle to sign £75m Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt this summer, according to reports in Holland via the Mirror.

De Ligt is one of the most wanted players in Europe after enjoying a stunning campaign that saw him captain Ajax to a domestic league and cup double while they also came within seconds of reaching the Champions League final following a heart breaking semi-final defeat to Tottenham.

The 19-year-old has been strongly tipped to follow team mate Frenkie de Jong to Barcelona this summer but the Mirror claims the Catalan giants aren’t willing to pay agent Mino Raiola the £12m he’s demanding to broker the deal.

That opened the door for Manchester United to make their move and Spanish outlet Sport reported recently that the Red Devils have offered de Ligt a bumper contract worth £12.3m per season to make a big money move to Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is gearing-up for a busy summer as he looks to turn his squad into title challengers again having finished sixth in the Premier League this season and a new dominant centre-back is reportedly a priority.

When quizzed about United’s interest, de Ligt remained coy and insisted he won’t make a decision over his future until after the Nations League next month. He’s quoted by the Mirror as telling FOX Sports:

“I have read the reports about Manchester United. I have seen the salary I would get, too. Would you take it? People should take these reports with a grain of salt. The stories are funny though.

“Everyone has been talking about my future for a year now. One day I will go there, and the next day I will go somewhere else.

“I have made quite a tour through Europe haven’t I? My focus is on the Nations League and after that I will see what will happen.”

De Ligt would be a sensational coup for Man Utd if they could lure him to Old Trafford as he has the potential to become one of the best centre-back’s in world football and he could marshal their back four for the next decade.

However, United will face fresh competition as the Mirror are citing a report from De Telegraaf that claims Paris Saint-Germain have now joined the race to sign the Dutch international star.

According to De Telegraaf, PSG are willing to meet Ajax’s £75m valuation and pay Raiola’s £12m brokerage fee so they are now considered as one of the front-runners to secure de Ligt’s signature this summer.
