Man Utd given go-ahead to seal £40m deal after club agrees to sell

Manchester United have been given the green light to sign Ivan Rakitic after Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde agreed to sell the £40m-rated midfielder

Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are boosted in their pursuit of Ivan Rakitic…

Manchester United have been given the green light to sign Ivan Rakitic this summer after Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde agreed to sell the £40m-rated midfielder, according to reports in Spain via The Sun.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be extremely busy in the transfer market over the coming weeks as he looks to build a squad capable of competing for top honours again after finishing sixth in the league last season.

The United boss has already snapped-up young winger Daniel James from Swansea City but a new central midfielder is on the agenda as Ander Herrera has left the club on a free transfer while Paul Pogba continues to be linked with a move away.

Rakitic has been touted as a potential target with the Mirror carrying a report earlier this week suggesting Man Utd have made contact with Barcelona to express their interest in signing the Croatian international this summer.

It seems United have now been given the green light to push ahead with a potential deal for Rakitic as The Sun are carrying a report that originates from SER Catalunya that claims Ernesto Valverde has agreed to sell.

New customer offer. Place 5 x €/£10 or more bets to receive €/£20 in free bets. Repeat up to 5 times to receive maximum €/£100 bonus. Min odds 1/2 (1.5). Exchange bets excluded. Full T&Cs Apply. 18+|Gamble Aware.

The Catalan-based radio station says the Barca boss expressed his willingness to cash-in on the 31-year-old midfielder during meetings with club chiefs this week and The Sun suggests the Spaniard’s will do business at around £40m.

Barcelona have signed Frenkie de Jong from Ajax so it appears they are ready to sacrifice Rakitic in order to make room for the highly-rated Dutchman and Man Utd could be the ones to benefit.

Rakitic has been one of the best central midfielders in Europe since joining Barcelona from Sevilla five years ago and he’s made over 250 appearances to help the club win a whole host of honours including four La Liga titles and the Champions League.

He may be the wrong side of 30 but Rakitic is in excellent physical shape having barely missed a game through injury over the past couple of years so I think he’d be an excellent signing if United could lure him to Old Trafford.

Not another 30-31+ y/o player on the end of the line ! I do have a collection of about 70 players that MU is interested in over the last few months. I’m sure, that MU could buy at list 3 of them who are 10 (or so) years younger for half the money. Since sir AF departure MU has the mentality of a used car
dealership. It doesn’t matter how good the car used to be if its wheels are about to fell off.

Not a bad short-term solution with Pogba going. If we can get Bruno Fernandes and Ruben Dias as well(please do not get Maguire), plus another striker as well as Pepe and Longstaff, then I think we’ll compete.

as always man utd pussy foot around when it comes to signing players, due to the fact these no CL FOOTBALL for man utd, a lot of top talented players wont join, which you ask your self, is it the manager or is it Ed Woodward, either way man utd wont do well this season, and i cant see them finishing in the top 4, until every utd fan understands, that the glory days at old trafford are over, man utd need to bring in an top class manager, and they need to look in Germany or Italy to do this, i will give Solskjaer until the end of october before they sack him
