Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Today, Man Utd are confident of signing Sean Longstaff….

Manchester United are ready to meet Newcastle’s £30m asking price for Sean Longstaff as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer closes in on his third signing of the summer, according to the Metro.

United bosses have been working hard trying to land Solskjaer’s targets before the squad returns for pre-season training next week with the Norwegian coach desperate to strengthen his ranks following a disappointing campaign last season.

The Red Devils have already wrapped up the signing of winger Daniel James from Swansea City while Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s move from Crystal Palace is expected to be formally announced today.

However, Solskjaer is still in the market for a midfielder to replace Ander Herrera – who will leave the club on a free transfer when his contract expires next week – and Longstaff has emerged as a likely candidate.

The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks and the Metro claims Man Utd are increasingly confident of signing the midfielder following Rafa Benitez’s exit from St James’ Park.

Benitez handed Longstaff his debut last season after promoting him from the youth ranks and the youngster was reportedly keen to remain at his boyhood club to continue his development under the Spaniard.

However, with Benitez gone, the Metro claims Longstaff is now considering his future at Newcastle and United have grown more hopeful that a deal can now be agreed to sign the talented youngster this summer.

The Metro says sources close to the club have informed them that Man Utd chiefs are now willing to stretch their initial £25m valuation to meet Newcastle’s £30m asking price in order to get a deal done swiftly.

With no manager in place, the decision to sell will be down to Mike Ashley and United are confident the money-hungry owner will opt to cash-in paving the way for Longstaff to become Solskjaer’s third summer signing.
