Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, the latest on Dani Ceballos….
Liverpool have joined Arsenal and Tottenham in the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos this summer, according to reports in Spain via the Mirror.
Ceballos has struggled to establish himself as a regular since joining Madrid from Real Betis in 2017 with the midfielder starting just 13 La Liga games last season and he featured in just 1 of their last 9 matches.
It’s led to speculation he’ll be on the move this summer and Ceballos has sparked interest from the Premier League after starring for Spain during their triumphant 2019 Under-21 European Championship campaign.
Spanish outlet AS reported last week that Arsenal and Tottenham were battling it out over a deal to sign Ceballos with Madrid prepared to do business if £44.9m [€50m] was put on the table.
Unai Emery is looking to strengthen his squad following a disappointing campaign and the Arsenal boss needs to sign a creative midfielder to replace Aaron Ramsey after he joined Juventus on a free transfer.
Mauricio Pochettino is also expected to sign an attack-minded midfielder to replace Christian Eriksen after he went public with his desire to seek a new challenge and it appears Spurs are ready to go head-to-head with Arsenal over a deal for Ceballos.
However, the north London duo will face fresh competition as the Mirror are citing a report from Marca that claims Liverpool have now entered the race to sign the Spanish youngster this summer.
Jurgen Klopp is only likely to make minor changes to his Champions League winning squad but another creative midfielder could be on the agenda and Ceballos is seemingly on the Liverpool bosses radar.
However, the 22-year-old midfielder may have reservations about moving to Anfield as he’s made it clear he wants regular first team football if he’s to leave Madrid this summer and that might be something Klopp can’t offer.
Ceballos is quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“Yes, the most important thing in life is to be happy and that can only happen by playing 40 games a year.
“My personal goal for next season is to play 40 games and to be comfortable at all times. Wherever it is doesn’t matter, but it has to be a place where I can feel valued.
“I the moment I have no preferred choice. What I know is that I want to enjoy next year and that I’m open to new challenges. I’d like to try new things.”
Ceballos certainly seems to be open to the idea of moving clubs in order to get regular first team football and it looks like Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham are keen to lure him to the Premier League.
However, Marca says Serie A giants AC Milan are also showing a strong interest in signing the Spaniard so we’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming weeks.
