Arsenal hoping to pull-off £54m double swoop on European giants

Arsenal are eyeing a double swoop on Real Madrid with the Gunners ready to pay £54m to sign Lucas Vazquez and Mariano Diaz this summer

Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, Arsenal are linked with a double swoop on Real Madrid

Arsenal are eyeing a double swoop on Real Madrid with the Gunners ready to pay £54m to sign Lucas Vazquez and Mariano Diaz this summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Unai Emery is in the market for attacking reinforcements and Vazquez emerged as a target last week with widespread media outlets reporting that Arsenal were in talks with Madrid to sign the Spanish international.

The 28-year-old has struggled to hold down a regular first team place under Zinedine Zidane and Madrid are reportedly willing to cash-in as they look to balance the books after splashing out on Eden Hazard, Rodrygo and Luka Jovic this summer.

Mundo Deportivo claims Arsenal are willing to pay £36m [€40m] to sign the winger and Vazquez is believed to be ready for a new challenge as he looks to secure regular first team football to boost his chances of making the Spain Euro 2020 squad.

Vazquez isn’t the only Madrid player Arsenal are reportedly keen on as Mundo Deportivo also claim Emery is hoping to sign Diaz this summer in what would be a big-money double swoop on the European giants.

Diaz joined Madrid from Lyon last summer but made just 13 La Liga appearances, scoring 3 goals, and the Dominican Republic international will fall even further down the pecking order following the arrivals of Jovic and Rodrygo.

The Spanish outlet says Arsenal are ready to pay £18m [€20m] to sign the 25-year-old but Diaz doesn’t want to commit to anything until he speaks with Zidane to see if he’s in his plans for next season.

Diaz is a striker so he’d offer support for Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if he does join Arsenal this summer and he could be viewed as a replacement for Danny Welbeck following his exit from the club.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I must admit I’m not overly excited at the thought of spending £54m on two Madrid squad players, especially when money is so tight this summer, and I’d be surprised if it happens.

Emery needs to bring in a left-back, centre-back, midfielder and at least one forward before the start of the new season and with a reported budget of around £45m to spend, I just don’t see us spending it all on Vazquez and Diaz.
