Arsenal on verge of completing 2nd summer signing thanks to Emery intervention

Arsenal are on the verge of signing Dani Ceballos on a season long loan after Unai Emery convinced the Real Madrid midfielder to snub Tottenham

Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, Arsenal are closing-on on Dani Ceballos…

Arsenal are on the verge of signing Dani Ceballos on a season long loan after Unai Emery convinced the Real Madrid midfielder to snub Tottenham, according to AS.

Ceballos has struggled to establish himself as a first team regular since joining Madrid from Real Betis in 2017 and the talented midfielder was restricted to making just 13 La Liga starts last season.

Zinedine Zidane has been overhauling his squad this summer and it appears Ceballos is going to find it difficult to force his way into the Madrid first eleven next season so the Spaniard has been strongly linked with a move away from the Bernabeu.

The 22-year-old has had no shortage of takers after starring for Spain during their victory at the U21 European Championships this summer and Marca reported last week that Arsenal were leading Tottenham in the race to sign the midfielder.

Mauricio Pochettino has already splashed out a club record fee to sign Frenchman Tanguy Ndombele but the Spurs coach is in the market for another midfielder amid on-going doubts surrounding the future of Christian Eriksen.

Ceballos is seemingly on Pochettino’s radar but he looks set to miss out as AS are reporting that Arsenal are now on the verge of wrapping-up a season long loan deal for the Spanish U21 international.

The Spanish publication says Emery’s determination to lure Ceballos to north London has played a key role in convincing the player to opt for a move to Arsenal over their rivals and the deal is now just waiting for Zidane to give it the go-ahead after he returned to the clubs pre-season tour following the death of his brother.

Ceballos is still on holiday following his exploits at the U21 European Championships but he’s due to return to pre-season training with Madrid on July 22nd so his future is expected to be resolved over the coming days.

A move to Arsenal is now close and I think Ceballos would be an excellent signing for the Gunners, even if it is just a short-term loan, as he’d be an excellent replacement for Ramsey. If Arsenal can get this deal over the line then Ceballos would become Emery’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano.
