Sky Sports reporter offers exciting update on Arsenal’s bid to sign Zaha & Tierney

Arsenal’s talks with Celtic over a deal to sign Kieran Tierney are ‘progressing’ while we’re set to table a significantly higher offer for Wilfried Zaha

Managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads during the summer transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip from around the globe. Here, the latest on Arsenal’s bid to sign Wilfried Zaha and Kieran Tierney…

Arsenal’s talks with Celtic over a deal to sign Kieran Tierney are ‘progressing’ while we’re set to table a significantly higher offer for Wilfried Zaha, according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.

Unai Emery is reportedly closing-in on a loan deal for midfielder Dani Ceballos while centre-back William Saliba is due to complete his move to Arsenal before being immediately loaned back to Saint-Etienne.

That will take our transfer tally to three for the summer following the arrival of Gabriel Martinelli but Emery is still keen to further strengthen his squad before the window closes in just over two weeks time.

A new left-back appears to be on the agenda and we’ve been locked in talks with Celtic over a deal to sign Tierney but recent reports suggested we had walked away from the negotiating table after our latest £25m bid was knocked back.

It’s been widely reported that Celtic weren’t happy with the add-ons we’d proposed as they wanted the majority of the fee paid up front so it looked as though Emery was ready to move on to alternative targets.

However, Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol claims Arsenal haven’t given up on signing Tierney and he says talks with Celtic are progressing as we look to find an agreement over the structure of the payments with the SPL Champions.

Arsenal are also keen on bringing in a winger this summer and Zaha has reportedly been identified as Emery’s prime target but reports have suggested negotiations with Crystal Palace have reached a dead end due to their £80m valuation.

It looked like Emery was prepared to admit defeat in his pursuit of Zaha, however, Solhekol claims Arsenal remain in the hint to sign the winger and are ready to table an improved offer which will be ‘considerably higher’ than our opening £40m bid.

The Sky Sports reporter tweeted:

Arsenal have not given up on signing Zaha & Tierney. Tierney talks progressing about structuring deal acceptable to Celtic. Everyone working hard to make deal happen. On Zaha, Arsenal expected to make new offer which will be “considerably higher” than first offer of £40m

We’ll have to wait and see what kind of offer Arsenal submit but let’s hope we manage to get a deal agreed with Crystal Palace as Zaha would be an excellent addition to Emery’s squad if we can lure him to north London.

We may try to include Carl Jenkinson or Shkodran Mustafi as part of a player-plus-cash swap deal as Palace are desperate for defenders and we need to offload our deadwood as soon as possible.

Let’s see how the next two weeks go but I would be pleased if Arsenal could get deals wrapped-up for Zaha, Tierney, Ceballos and Saliba before the season starts – although I think we also need to add an established centre-back who can help shore-up our back-line this season.
