Arsenal have completed the signing of Dani Ceballos with the midfielder joining on a season long loan deal from Real Madrid, it has been confirmed on Arsenal.com.

Unai Emery has been desperately trying to strengthen his squad in recent weeks and he had identified Ceballos as the man to replace Aaron Ramsey following his free transfer move to Juventus.

Ceballos was put on the market as he’s struggled to establish himself as a first team regular at Madrid since joining the club from Real Betis two years ago as he made just 13 La Liga starts last season.

However, Madrid chiefs still hold the midfielder in high regard and Ceballos was reportedly reluctant to leave the Bernabeu on a permanent basis so it was agreed he would leave on loan without an option to buy clause being included in the deal.

Arsenal emerged as the front runners for his signature after seeing off competition from Tottenham and Sport reported on Wednesday that Ceballos was on the verge of completing his move after flying to London to undergo his medical.

The club have now confirmed the 22-year-old has finalised his move to Arsenal and Ceballos has confirmed Emery played an important role in luring him to the Emirates Stadium.

He told Arsenal.com:

Dani, welcome to Arsenal. How does it feel to have joined us?

First of all, thanks very much. I’m really proud to be able to wear this shirt. I’m joining an historic Premier League side and it’s a step forward in my career.

There was some interest from other Premier League clubs in you. What was it about Arsenal that made you want to come here?

I knew I had the confidence of the coach, which was very important for me from the start. I was aware of the responsibility that wearing this shirt entails and it was a tremendously proud moment when I decided to join Arsenal.

How important was Unai Emery in your decision – and what has he told you about your role this season?

The coach was the turning point in terms of me joining this massive club. He’s a Spanish coach and he knows me from my time at other clubs. I’m really happy to be able to help Arsenal achieve our objectives.

Ceballos will wear the No.8 shirt next season after it was vacated by Ramsey and he could make his debut for the club against Lyon at the Emirates Cup on Sunday.
