The 4 Arsenal Players Who Must Be Sold This Summer

Arsenal are looking to next season for salvation following the season of close misses for the Gunners this season. From the League Cup final, to their Champions League first leg advantage over Barcelona and a quarter final placing in the FA Cup, not to mention their Premier League title run in. So here’s the list of players Wenger has to sell to gain funds to strengthen for next season.

Gael Clichy
Just a few years ago, he was compared to the likes of Patrice Evra and Ashley Cole, but a dismal year has left Clichy looking fairly mediocre and heading to the exit door
Brazilian footballers are usually renown for their flair in the beautiful game, with tricks and flicks and awesome vision, which is why someone must check Denilson’s passport, his football isn’t up to standard.
Tomas Rosicky
A few years back, Rosicky was bossing the midfield with defence splitting passes and his Benayoun-like runs through the defence, but his age and injuries have certainly hampered his career, making him one that must leave in the coming transfer window.
Andrei Arshavin
The excitement in watching the diminutive Russian dominating on the ball park has seemed to disappear this season. He has had his extra special moments but he is the type of player who would give you 7 misses in return for a solitary goal, Arshavin wastes the chances way too often for Arsenal.

How can you say Arshavin and clichy need to be sold? clichy has been one of the best arsenal players for a long time and has been very consistent, it would be a trajedy if he went since is the last player af the invincibles. Arshavin has had a bad season by his standards yet he still has one of the highest assist tallies in the league, he has infact scored more goals and assists than Bale in less starts this season. The only reason we would sell arshavin or clichy is if clichy doesnt sign a new contract or if arshavin wants to go. Finnally you have put far too few players in you left out almunia, bendtner, squillaci and possibly Diaby, chamahk or eboue, although i still like these players.

LOL HAHA ? Muppet . Clichy has been bad in a few games, but on his day is one of the best. Rosicky i agree with. Arsharvin really depends on how much we are offered if we make a loss its not worth it. But i thought his attitude has been brilliant of late, he’s looked alot better than walcott recently . Not to say i would get rid of walcott cause when he plays with confidence he’s one of the best. Denilson, yea i’d agree with got alot coming through who i think are better. But we don’t need to be rash with our descisions today proved we are better than UTD we just need to know what it takes to beat them.

      • ScotchEggsRule

        May 1, 2011 at 1:02 pm

No Sam, he is right your comments are those of an idiot. Clichy is currently the 3rd best left back in the league behind Evra and Cole, yes he doesn’t score or set up many, but neitehr does Cole or Evra and as defenders that is not their primary role. Liverpool don’t have ANY fullbacks that can hold a candle to Sagna (best RB in the Premier league) and Clichy. This is from someone who DOES know about football. Either way, I am sure your fullbacks will enjoy the UEFA cup ‘again’ next season……

  6. Tommi Gooner

    May 1, 2011 at 10:49 am

Add to the list Almunia, DIaby, Bentdner and Eboué.

I do make you right on Clichy and Arshavin as well. Both are over rated. Clichy has no defensive nous anymore and has been average at best, he can’t cross the ball for love nor money. Not sure what his stats are but I don’t even think he has a 50% crossing rate. That said he’s a defender – so defend, but he doesn’t seem to want to do that.

Arshavin – as much as he has skills, he’s too inconsistant and lazy. If he was actually ‘doing it’ I wouldn’t mind. I think many people still hold his appearance against Liverpool when he cracked 4 goals close to their hearts and live in hope he does it again or plays with that desire. But we need fighters, little terriers in the team not players who can only be arsed when they want. On a side note, comparing him to Bale is neither here nor there, I’m not being biased but Bale’s stats this season are shit & I can’t believe he got player of the year, think he’s scored 1 and got 7 assists (in the prem) thats very poor for a so-called Player of the year.

..Almunia should be the first to leave..SKULLS

  8. BergkampHenry

    May 1, 2011 at 10:51 am

wtf man arshavins just in a bad patch of form, and clichy has had inadequate cover down the left flank and has therefore had difficulty balancing his attacking and defensive duties. imo arshavin will be much better next year, and with wilshere’s increased presence on the left side of midfield Clichy will be better supported and therefore his performances will lift again.

I can name 3 players that DEFINATELY need to be sold, Almunia, Denilson and Rosicky. Personally i would give Bendtner, Diaby and Squillaci another year to prove their worth, they have had patchy seasons due to lack of gametime, persistent injuries and occasional complacency, and lack of confidence, respectively.

    • Davi

      May 1, 2011 at 12:37 pm

Arshavin’s bad patch has lasted almost 2 seasons now. The guy seems to find it difficult to motivate himself and we need our experienced players to be more reliable. I wouldn’t be sad to see him go, but I do appreciate what he has done for us, particularly when he first joined. I just think our attack needs to be freshened up.
I agree on clichy. He’s not perfect but he IS a very good left back. He just doesn’t get any protection on the left in this new formation. He and sagna were rated as the league’s best when hleb and rosicky and flamini were doing a good job and taking the pressure of them.

      • samuel

        May 1, 2011 at 12:51 pm

That was then we are talking now this season, don,t confuse yourself and others ,please?

        • Davi

          May 1, 2011 at 1:22 pm

I think you’re the one who’s confused. I’m saying that in the other formation clichy was considered an excellent fullback and he hardly put a foot wrong that season. The new formation puts him and sagna under too much pressure and now we see occasional mistakes. My point is that clichy is good enough but the system we play is not.

Davi. Why are you wasting your time and energy trying to reason with this ill-informed Muppet? Samual, why do you tax your little brain with the intricate arts of football punditry, you should concentrate on the more simple straight forward things in life, like the fact that they put beans in tins now, how great is that!

If we don’t sell squillaci he won’t buy another ch. Likewise he won’t sign another dm unless he sells denilson and he won’t buy another striker unless he sells one. That said i understand that with their contracts up in a year nasri clichy arshavin and rosicky are the ones to focus on. But the big talking point will again be will we need a new captain next season? To be honest you could pick a whole team and a bench of who should go and who could go.

    the should go’s X1
    eastmond squillaci hoyte traore
    Randall denilson diaby
    Rosicky bendtner Vela

the could go’s on the bench
fabianski eboue clichy fabregas nasri arshavin chamakh

i have not even included lehmann who will surely go and some youngsters like ozyakup sunu cruise Murphy

    Get real…
We’re having a good season, not great but good.
We’re in the top of the EPL, final in CC, through the group stages in CL,…

I agree we need to sell a coupple of players in a combination of raising funds (both from transfer as well as reduced wages), reduce the number of players and we are quickly heading towards the magic 25 over 21.

Hovever, it’s because the season looked so great 2 months ago that it seems like we have a bad season. Buy 1 WINNER who will pull the team through when we’re struggling, preferably a 25+ goal striker and we’re good to go.

Clichy is everthing that is wrong with arsenal .plays silly ball in he’s own box look good going forward then nothing he has to go . If you can’t see this save youselfs alot of money and stop watching football

    • samuel

      May 1, 2011 at 12:56 pm

Exactly ,but just like Walcott and Sagna
who hide on the same flank ,flitting in and out of the game not actually doing
much, like Arshavin while getting paid rather well,so van Persie has 17 goals in 17 games ,who else has scored regularly
and don,t tell us Arshsavin and Walcott?

      • ScotchEggsRule

        May 1, 2011 at 1:18 pm

“Sagna hides on the right flank?” Oh my boy, you are a real gem I tell you, you have made my day. Sagna is acknowledged as the best RB in the Premier league and comfortably better defensively than Alves and Maicon. Isn’t that what a RB is supposed to? Defend well.

My contribution to Arsenal and the stubborn Wenger is to offload
    > the following players in order of priority
    > 1. Almunia
    > 2. Fabiansky
    > 3. Bendtner
    > 4. Diaby
    > 5. Squilacci
    > 6. Konsciency
    > 7. Denilson
    > 8. Chamak
    > 9. Fabregas
These players have just let us down big time. Lets then build our team around Nasri, Song, Wilshere, Walcot, Van Parsie, Arshavin, Scezny, Sagna,Clichy and buy world class players as replacements.

    > Player by player comparison we have better players on the field of

    > in a match. As gunners, we are really in a fix. Year in Year out : Do
    > we have wrong players or our coach has done enough contribution to the
    > team. If the current team is able to win games against Chelsea and
    > Barcelona, why can’t- they beat average teams like Blackburn ,
    > Birmingham, Newcastle and Wes Brom. One can quickly conclude that the
    > players are indeed failing us, they only play when they are in that
    > mood. But what about the Totenham and Newcastle game, being
    > 2 nil and 4 nil up in 45 minutes but eventually dropping crucial
    > points at the end. Then One would say the coach is failing to read the
    > game. Honestly I don’t know, and Iam getting tired of this mess,
    > unfortunately or fortunately I will die for Arsenal
    > Arsene Wenger put us in this situation of winning nothing just to
    > prove his kidznet philosophy of his own for the past 6 years, and now
    > we have to suffer with pain as he goes around making all excuses
    > available ( pitch, injuries, referees, fatigue etc). These kids cannot win us the league .
    > Confidence levels went down with a dull match against lowly Blackburn.
    > I’m beginning to feel that we might end up at 4th place come end of

Well Denilson will be gone this seaosn, lets see how many big clubs come in for him or we could put Wilshere on the list and see how many big clubs come in for him. Meh, what would managers like Capello, Ferguson, Wenger and Hiddink know, that you don’t eh?

Squillaci’s going to prove everyone wrong. He had a bad start but has improved dramatically in his last couple. He has a solid reputation and I wouldn’t be shocked if our starting CBs were TV and squillaci by the end of next season.

Players who should go are as follows-

Rosicky (as much as it pains me to say it)

    and the forgotten ones.
    Armand Traore
    Gavin Hoyte
    Vito Mannone

As an arsenal fan who has watched 90% of there games this season we need

A new GK either to replace Szczesny for a couple more years.

A dominant CB because im sorry but people forget we have a beast of a CB in Vermaelen who has only played 2 games this whole season. We dont need radical change in that department Koscielny and Squillaci are good sub CB.

We need another FAST LW OR RW because we seem so slow counter attacking when Walcott is missing.

a replacement for cesc if he leaves although I believe Jack and Nasri are ready to take over.

and we need a fast CF. Ian Wright trophies!!!! Anelka trophies!!!! Henry trophies!!!!

and finally on the topic of Andrei Arshavin, he is a top quality player who has had a bad season. we have all seen what he can produce on the top level he’s just low on confidence. I watched a game during the season where he was out of most of the game, missed a few chances but still got two assists for Arsenal to get the win. He just needs a run of the balls, quality always shines through.

Arshavin was one of our best players today & he only played half the game.

Clichy gave Van Persie the assist in our first goal against Barcelona. I’d argue we keep him.

I like Diaby. He’s a large presence in the middle where we often get pushed around due to our size. He also has great speed & he’s young so he’ll get better.

I’d like to see Bendtner go because he’s slow and needlessly arrogant.

I’d also like to see Fabregas unloaded. You can’t have your captain be so disloyal every week. We pay him really well, he’s got a recurring hamstring injury & he wears the captain’s arm band so we should get more than what he’s giving.

Almunia, Denilson and Rosicky should all go. The other guys who aren’t so good can sit on the bench & be subs.

Can we sell some of the so-called fans who posted here? Really, Arsenal supporters should be required to prove that they are older than 8 years to have an opinion.

As for the Liverpool fans, Arshavin and Clichy would immediately start for them, saying something about relative team quality.

I’ll take Arshavin over the overrated Gareth Bale any day.Really, anyone who thinks Arshavin played poorly this year — in real terms, not in comparison to his past performance in a lesser league — knows nothing about football.

  29. Don Cee

    May 2, 2011 at 3:34 am

Samuel, I disagree with you on Clichy, but instead of insult you, I will ask you a simple question. WHO would you replace him with? As I am sure you understand, getting rid of players does not solve the problem if a BETTER player cannot be acquired to replace them. So, WHO (outside of Cole and Evra who would not come to Arsenal) would you recommend. Oh and before you challenge my knowledge of the game and I an ex semi pro of 20 years, a coach and an Arsenal season ticket holder. I look forward to your response.
