Arsenal: Vermaelen Suspension Update

Arsenal's Vermaelen

By Fab4.

Yesterday Arsenal beat West ham 2-0 at the Emirates to go top of the  premier league but this usually joyous occasion was dampened by the sending off of Thomas Vermaelen for an innocuous challenge on Franco, with the West Ham striker falling theatrically to the deck under the slightest of contact for the Arsenal defender.

Just to clarify how many games Vermaelen will be suspended for: 1 game. The FA Rulebook states the following:

Player Sent Off Under Law 12 (4) and (5) – Denying a goal or obvious goal scoring opportunity
will be suspended for 1 match, fined £20 and be subject to 2 penalty points

This news will come as a huge relief to many Gooner’s who were shuddering at the thought of Campbell and Silvestre being left with the responsibility of marshaling our backline against Birmingham, Wolves and more importantly the Spuds.

Arsene Wenger has also suggested he may play Song at the back after his superb performance there during the second half against the Hammers. I would prefer that option to be honest, but at least it’s only one game we have to worry about.
